Sports highlights week's activities at CFB , Guide banquet held
The past week has been ,a
busy one in hockey for the CFB
hockey teams,
On Tuesday, February 23, at
the Base Arena, the CFB Novice
team were efeated 4-0 by
Hensall Novyice in the second
round of play-offs. There were a
total of five penalties in this
game, with two of them going to
the Base team.
The Base Mites were' defeated
3-0 by the Goderich Mites on
Wednesday, February 24, in a
game played at the CFB Arena.
This game also had a total of five
penalties, with two of them
going to the CFB Mites.
On Thursday, February 25, in

School of Instructional
Technique at RCAF Station

Hensall, the Adastral Park
Bantams lost to the Hensall
Bantams by a score of 13-3.
Goals for the Base were by Bob
Kingsley who got twp, and Ken
Gerow with one. Assists were
one each for Keith Arnott and
Rick Phillips.
The Bantams played again on
Saturday, Feb. 27, on home ice,
defeating the Belgrave Bantams
by a score of 8-3. Goals for the
Base were by Rick Green, who
got three, Claire Ccilquhoun with
two, and Bob Kingsley, Adair
Meehan, and Butch Heipel, who
each got one. The Base boys.also
received a total of five penalties.
The Mite Team was scheduled
Mr. Hudson moved to Clinton
with the school in 1962. He has
the distinction of serving with all
the officers who commanded the
school since its origin.
Art Hudson is known to
thousands of graduates as the
"Civy" who taught them the
operation of the 16MM motion
. to have two games with Clinton
on Saturday morning, Feb. 27,
but Clinton didn't come, so the
"blue" sweater Mites played the
"white" sweater Mites, ending in
a 3-3 tie.
Also on Saturday the
Seaforth Pee Wee team defeated
the CFB Pee Wees by a score of
10.0, in a game played in
Seaforth. During the third
period the Adastral Park
goal-tender, Bruce Bowser, got
the only penalty of the game,
for fighting, Pat Smith then
finished the game as goal-tender.
The Base Senior Team were
defeated 5.0 by Hensell at the
CFB Arena on Saturday evening.

The only activity that Mr.
Hudson plans for the future is a
bit of gardening around his
home in Wellington, Ontario. A
son, Leonard, still attends high
school in Picton. Daughter,
Freda, is married and lives in
Kenora.
In bowling news the men's
bowling league standings are:
Supply, 99; C.E. No, 1, 98;
KO., 68; Mixed "8", 67; B.X.,
59; C, E. No. 2, 57.
The season high single is F.
Schwab with 376. Season high
triple is G. Ranson with 800.

On Saturday, Feb. 27 a
Volleyball Tournament was held
at the CFB Recreation Centre,
with six schools participating.
Games began at 9 a.m., with
each team playing each of the
other teams, and a win, worth
five points, being declared after
the best two out of three games
between schools. At the end of
the day, standings were as
follows:
GIRLS' TEAMS
Clinton Public, 25 points,
first place; Hullet Central, 23
points, second place; Hugh
Campbell (Adastral Park), 19
points, third place (tie);
Holmesville, 19 points, third
place (tie); Huron Centennial, 19
points, third place (tie); Seaforth
Public, 15 points, fourth place.

girls' team are: Iareri Belliveau,'
Katrina Beseau, Maureen Carey,
Mary Anne Cummings, Debbie

BOYS' TEAMS

(tie); Hugh Campbell, 15 points,
fifth place.
Holmesville and Huron
Centennial had a play-off game
to break the tie of 21 points
each, resulting in Helinesville
taking second place.
Members of the Adastral Park
boys' team are: Paul Arnett,
Charles Belliveau, Robert
Kingsley, Paul Leash, Tad
McMillan, Danny Page, Joe
Pennimpede, Rick Phillips,
Paddy Turner, and Mike Weir.
Both the Adastral Park girls'
and boys' teams played 11
games with the girls earning an
average of approximately 10
points per game, and the boys
earning approximately seven
points per game.

On Friday, Feb. 26, a
non-denominational church
service for "Thinking Day" was
held in the R.C. Chapel. Father
Glofcheski and Padre Youmatoff
officiated at the service,
attended by approximately 70
Brownies, Guides, Cubs, Scouts,
and their leaders.

The annual "Mother and
Daughter" banquet for the CFB
Clinton Guides and Brownies
was held at the Sergeants' Mess
on Wednesday, Feb. 24,
beginning at 7 p.m. The banquet
opened with the singing of 0
Canada, followed by 'grace' said
by Padre Youmatoff, and the
toast to the Queen, given by
Jose Parent. A delicious dinner
was then served by eight of the
fathers, and following this was a
candlelight ceremony. Mrs. E. M.
Harper, District Commissioner,
then welcomed the mothers.
Karen Belliveau proposed the
toast to the mothers, and this
was replied to by Mrs. A.
Belliveau, on behalf of the
mothers present.
Head table guests were then
introduced. These guests were
Padre Youmatoff, the Protestant
Chaplain; Miss Mary McMillan,
Area Commissioner; Mrs. Jane
Golding, Honorary Chairman of
the Local Association; and Mrs.
Hazel McCreath, Division
Commissioner.
The Area and Division
Commissioners each spoke
briefly, both mentioning their
regret at this being the last such
banquet for Base Clinton. Mrs.
Faye Price, Guide Captain, then
led a sing-song, after which Dale
Mason thanked the fathers for
serving the meal. Father
Glofcheski was unable to attend,
so Padre Youmatoff took the
closing prayer.
The evening ended with the
singing of both Brownie and
Guide Taps.

During the past week,
eliminations were held to select
finalists for the public speaking
competition for Branch 140 of
the Canadian Legion, to be held
at the Legion Hall on Tuesday,
March 2.

The Canadian Forces School
of Instructional Technique
(CFSIT) lost one of its most
experienced instructors this
week.
Mr. Ivan G. Wright left the
school to accept a position as a
representative of Melchers
Distillery, He and his family will
move to Kingston, Ontario, at
the end of the current school
year.
Mr. Wright joined CFSIT in
September 1968 when he was
posted from his position as
District Cadet Liaison Officer in
Manitoba. He came at that time
as Captain Wright of the Royal
Canadian Regiment.
Upon reaching retirement
age. Captain Wright bad become
a competent teacher on several
of the CFSIT Courses and was
persuaded to stay on as a civilian
instructor. boring the last year,
Mr. Wright assumed the
responsibilities of Senior
Instructor on one of the courses.
The School of Instructional
Technique will miss Mr. Wright.
The community will miss his
active wife Betty, Who will be
remembered for her assistance
with hospital auxiliary and other
activities in both the civilian and
military torninunities,
'Mrs. Wright arid soils Terry,
will remain in Adastral Park
until the school tent ends. A
daughter, Tim, is working in
Toronto.
