consolation prize winners were
Mrs. Dungey and Jim Barrie.
Mr, Jim Lawrie of Blyth and
his group provided a Scottish
program last Thursday (Family
Night) for the residents. The
program consisted of vocal
numbers by Jim Lawrie, Adeline
Campbell, Mark and Francis
Battge, a dance number by Avon
Toll, instrumentals by three
sisters Greta, Barbara and Sheila
France, Jim Lawrie and some of
the members of the Huronview
orchestra, Mrs. Taylor, Miller
Adams, John Leeming and
Norman Speir,
The program was well
attended and enjoyed by the
residents and several relatives.
The residents appreciate their
families and friends attending
the program with them and it is
hoped that, when the weather
improves, more people will be
able to come.
The students of AIM Hugh
Campbell School at Canadian
Forces Base Clinton took an
active part in the Clinton Winter
Carnival, held last week.
While enrollment at the
school is approximately one-half
the number of students that
were enrolled in June of 1970,
the school came closer to-
winning the trophy this year
than they have in previous years.
A narrow margin of two
points separated the two top
teams, with Clinton Public
School obtaining 32 points, and
the Hugh Campbell School
reaching a total of 30 points,
thus placing second in the
standings. There were
approximately seven
participating schools.
Congratulations are extended
to the following students who
earned points in the racing:
Catherine McPherson who
placed second in the Grades one
to three girls; Joey Hartford,
placing first, and Mark
Motomura, second, in the boys,
Grades one to three; Judy Hatch
placed third in Grades four and
five girls, while in the boys'
division Randy Green tame first,
and Leonard Kingsley, third.
In Grades sit and seven girls
Linda Motomura placed first,
Marlene Gerow second, and
Mary Anne Cummings third,
The school relay team placed
in second position, with a time
of two seconds more than that
of the winning team.
Members of the relay team
Were.; Marlene Gerow, Linda
MOtOmura, Brenda Paulin,
Charles Beiliveau, Robert
Kingsley and Mike Weir.
The school entry in the
parade was made possible
through Larry Snider Motors of
Exeter, who supplied •a yellow
Ford Galaxie convertible to
transport the contestants for
Snow Queen and Snow King,
Linda Motomura, and Randy
Green. Many thanks are also
extended to Cpl. Lenz, who
drove the car.
Mrs, Joyce McAdams, school
secretary, and a number of the
senior students spent much time
and effort in making decorations
for the car, These decorations,
for the most part, were in the
school colors of purple and gold.
Congratulations to Randy
Green who was chosen as the
Carnival Snow King, and "well
done" to all who participated in
any way.

HEART FUND
One day there came a great big
snow
And home the -children could
not go,
"Oh dear me," the children said
"The floor will have to be our
bed."
The wind outside blew more and
more
While some of the teachers went
to the store,
Back they came with lots of
food
To us it tasted very good.
No one grumbled or made a fuss
We used our coats to cover us,
Before we knew it the morning
came
But the weather outside looked
just the same.
Breakfast at school seemed very
funny
Said Jackie, "I wish I had some _ - toast and honey.
That day we worked with all our
might
Hoping we would get home that
night.
Sad to say it happened again,
But we were helped by very kind
men,
Over the drifts on their fast
skidoos
They brought food and blankets
for us to use.
Now we are home all safe and
sound,
We want to say thanks to all
around,
Though the years may pass and
older we'll grow,
We'll not soon forget the YEAR
OF THE SNOW,

Safety tips
Do you have power steering,
and power brakes? Wonderful,
aren't they! But drivers should
remember that if the drive belt
breaks, or the engine stalls, both
steering and brakes feel as heavy
as lead. The Ontario Ssfety
League suggests you learn what
to expect by switching off the
ignition while driving slowly in a
deserted parking lot. You can
handle the car safely if the
power steering and brakes
"die"—BUT it needs extra
physical effort, and both mental
and physical adjustment. Get
yourself accustomed to the feel
of manual steering, and heavy
brake pedal; it could prevent a
moment of panic one day,
The show bad a variety of
theme this year, from Grimm's
Fairy Tales to 'The Happening,"
a medley of skating numbers
done to the music of today, The
number most enjoyed was the
parade of the "Village Children"
led by the Old Woman
Storyteller, Lynn Flowers. As
usual the children, aged four and
five stole the show, There were
one or two spills, but no one
seemed to mind and at the end
of the number came a long burst
of applause,
The costumes, obtained from
Stratford, were colourful and
attractive. Two particularly
noticeable were the Big
Toadstool, Pat Anstett and the
Aquarius Maiden, Kathy
Murphy. The toadstool's
costume was pink with a large
brocade cap, while the Aquarius
Maiden's was shimmery orange
