These two clowns added greatly to the fun and spirit of the carnival on the weekend With their crazy antics. Clinton News-Record, Thursday, February 18, 1971 7 • • Another week of fun at Winter Carnival Pattie Kay presents roses to Norma Hickey, Miss Dominion of Canada during opening ceremonies at the Clinton Winter Carnival on Saturday. In the background are Mayor Don Symons, Doug Andrews, recreation director and Don Kay chairman of the Clinton recreation committee. Clinton public school skaters won the trophy in public school skating races on Saturday morning by edging out Air Marshal Hugh Campbell School 32-30. The team is seen with the trophy and coach Ron Jewitt, left and Doug Andrews, Clinton recreation director. They're off and hopping in the snowshoe race on Saturday afternoon at the winter carnival. Leonard Lobb (right) outsped the rest of the contestants on the half-mile course. Under the searching eye of judge Norma Hickey three beardgrowers vied for the title of best beard at the carnival on Saturday. In the final outcome it was Doug Morgan (left) on top with Arnold Crich (right) second and Tom Clapp third. The Fairboard (near the camera) outpulled the Kinsmen team in this tug 'o war on Saturday afternoon but didn't have such luck defending their championship against Goderich Township later in the afternoon. Betty Heyensberger and Dennis Medd, both of St Joseph's school, Clinton were princess and prince, runners-up to the king and queen contest on Saturday at the Carnival. Snoopy and his dog house won top prize in the school snowsculpturing for grade eight of Clinton Public School. Stanley Township end the Ontario Hydro broOmbali teams met in the thuds of the broomball tournament on Saturday afternoon, After a tough struggle they ended the game in a 1.1 tie. Each team posed with Mayor Don Symons and Miss Dominion of Canada
