Furthermore, when snowmobilers are using public thoroughfares where most of these impaired ability accidents take place, driving provisions of the Criminal Code apply to them just the same as the car driver. This means a snowmobiler may be required to take a breathalyzer test and can be charged with impaired driving. If convicted, the court has the authority to prohibit the operator from using a snowmobile on any highway in Canada.
