Bill Crawford of the Clinton Midgets lets go a shot that is blocked by Doug McKay of Hensell midgets who put on a brilliant display in helping the Hensell team defeat Clinton. Clinton and Blyth squirt teams face off in the final of the Kinsmen Squirt tournament on Saturday afternoon. The powerful Blyth team downed Adastral Park 8-0 to win their way to the final while Clinton won 8-1 over Goderich B team. Blyth won the final 10-1. County Council concurs with resolniiou Huron County Council has concurred with a resolution from the city of Kitchener regarding the use of salt as a deicer on municipal and provincial highways. The resolution asked that the Ontario Department of Highways implement an urgent program of research to discover an alternative to the use of salt on highways. It is stipulated that such an alternative "will not act as a pollutant and will not be prohibitively expensive to use." Saturday's game was not as fast as Friday's but two quick goals by Donnie MacDonald late in the third period made the game exciting in the final minutes. Perry Babcock, Paul Grube and Dick Maxam scored before Rick Cameron gave the locals their first goal on a breakaway late in the second period. Maxam scored his second goal at 2:18 of the third. After the Fish and Garners scored their two goals the pressure was on. Weimer was brought back into the net for the third period after sub-goaler Mike Lane had played the first part of the game. A key save by Weimer was made when he journeyed out of his net to block a scoring try by Greg Butler. Dick Maxam fired a long one into the empty net after Clinton's coach had Welch coming off the ice in favour of an extra attacker. The game's stars were Maxam, Randy Miller and John Hullar. Richard Welch won the J. D. Thorndyke award as top goaltender. The Fish and Games gave their all but couldn't hold the big powerful club from Clinton New York, In Friday Night's thriller that game started off with two very quick goals. Doug Smart jammed the puck past Richard Welch after only 10 seconds of play. A minute later Rick Cameron picked up a loose puck and slipped it by big Mat Weimer. Smart again gave the New Yorkers the lead when he and speedster Dean Amain combined on a pretty goal, The early stages of the third period was all Clinton, Ontario's. Greg Butler scored at 4:40 by pulling Weimer out of position, then Randy Millar picked up a pass at the blueline from Rick Cameron streaked in to the red circle and fired a hard shot right through Weimer's legs. Five minutes later Cameron pulled Weimer again to put Clinton out in front 4-2, At 15:40 Dean Maxam rushed from one end to the other to score a well-earned goal. Then New York poured on the pressure. A minute later Perry Babcock rammed home a pass from Scott Gennings. With only a minute left Maxam gave New York their 5-4 victory with another beautiful skating effort, Paul Grube has set up Maxam with a rink wide pass. KELLER There is already one candidate for the wardenship of Huron County in 1972. He is Elmer Hayter, reeve of Stanley Township who was defeated Tuesday by 1971 Warden Jack Alexander, Wingham, in a tie vote broken by the reeve of Goderich, Paul Carroll. While Hayter indicated his disappointment at losing the race, he pledged his support to the new warden and said he would continue to work to the best of his ability "without fear or favor." The Stanley reeve did say his "running shoes" were still in fine shape. "I will be a candidate when that chair becomes vacant next year," said Hayter. She said there was an increased circulation of 16,837 books during 1970. A total of 11,637 new books were purchased last year, too, bringing the total book stock to 114,262 books. Miss Dewar reported that the Goderich library, the main library in the county, will be Lawrie Slade Award went to Gordon Pryde of Hensall. Varna BY FRED McCLYMONT The treasurer of the Varna and Goshen Bible Society, Mr. John MeAsh, has reported that $160 has been collected and forwarded to the head office of the Canadian Bible Society. The Explorer Group met in the Church lost Tuesday evening and the meeting was opened by reciting the Explorer Purpose and Motto. The hymn "This is our Father's world" was sung and Miss Cathy Taylor read the scripture lesson, Miss Marie Anne Kalbfleisth gave the prayer, Miss Sylvia Wilson read the minutes. Miss Beverly Cantelon recited a poem "Poor Bill McKie". The offering was taken up by Miss Bonnie Dawson and dedicated by Miss Anne Marie Heard. The financial report was given by Miss Janis Chuter. The Study Book was read by Mrs. Barry Taylor and the meeting was closed by Miss Cathy Taylor.
