Bantams play exciting
games tarp weekend
and Richard Welch made the
game a tight one with their
aped) goaltending. The Fish
and Gainers had lost 8-2 and
5-1. earlier this season to the
same club.
Saturday's game was not as
fast as Friday's but two quick
goals by Donnie MacDonald late
in the third period made the
game exciting in the final
minutes.
Perry Babcock, Paul Grube
and Dick Maxam scored before
Rick Cameron gave the locals
their first goal on a breakaway
late in the second period.
Maxam scored his second goal
at 2:18 of the third. After the
Fish and Garners scored their
two goals the pressure was on.
Weimer was brought back into
the net for the third period after
sub-goaler Mike Lane had played
the first part of the game. A key
save by Weimer was made when
he journeyed out of his net to
block a scoring try by Greg
Butler.
Dick Maxam fired a long one
into the empty net after
Clinton's coach had Welch
coming off the ice in favour of
an extra attacker.
The game's stars were Maxam,
Randy Miller and John Hullar.
Richard Welch won the J. D.
Thorndyke award as top
goaltender.
The Fish and Games gave
their all but couldn't hold the
big powerful club from Clinton
New York,
In Friday Night's thriller that
game started off with two very
quick goals. Doug Smart jammed
the puck past Richard Welch
after only 10 seconds of play. A
minute later Rick Cameron
picked up a loose puck and
slipped it by big Mat Weimer.
Smart again gave the New
Yorkers the lead when he and
speedster Dean Amain
combined on a pretty goal, The
early stages of the third period
was all Clinton, Ontario's. Greg
Butler scored at 4:40 by pulling
Weimer out of position, then
Randy Millar picked up a pass at
the blueline from Rick Cameron
streaked in to the red circle and
fired a hard shot right through
Weimer's legs. Five minutes later
Cameron pulled Weimer again to
put Clinton out in front 4-2, At
15:40 Dean Maxam rushed from
one end to the other to score a
well-earned goal.
Then New York poured on
the pressure. A minute later
Perry Babcock rammed home a
pass from Scott Gennings. With
only a minute left Maxam gave
New York their 5-4 victory
with another beautiful skating
effort, Paul Grube has set up
Maxam with a rink wide pass.

Elmer Hayter
candidate for
warden - '72
BY SHIRLEY J. KELLER
There is already one candidate
for the wardenship of Huron
County in 1972. He is Elmer
Hayter, reeve of Stanley
Township who was defeated
Tuesday by 1971 Warden Jack
Alexander, Wingham, in a tie
vote broken by the reeve of
Goderich, Paul Carroll.
While Hayter indicated his
disappointment at losing the
race, he pledged his support to
the new warden and said he
would continue to work to the
best of his ability "without fear
or favor."
The Stanley reeve did say his
"running shoes" were still in fine
shape.
"I will be a candidate when
that chair becomes vacant next
year," said Hayter.
He received a round of
applause from all his associates
in the council chamber,
