Murdock Morrison in charge. The following are the officers and teachers for 1971: Superintendents, Wm. The Royal Scarlet Chapter of South Huron met in the Orange Hall on Thursday evening last and the following officers were elected: W. C. — Charles Reid, Varna; D.C. — Wm. Dickey, Woodham; Chaplain — Max Switzer, Woodham; Recreation Secretary, Ivan McClymont, Varna; Treasurer, Wm. Mcllwain, Bayfield; Marshall, Norval Mellon, Greenway; First Lect., Lloyd Hem, Exeter; Second Lect., Burns Blackler, St. Marys; First Cond., Wm. Parker, Bayfield; Second Cond., Harold Davis, Kirkton; Herald, J. Pattison, Lucan; Sentinel, Carmen Stacey, St. Marys. The officers were installed by past W. C. Alex Hamilton of Grand Bend. Celebrates 90th birthday Mrs. Charles Straughan was honored last week for her 90th birthday when friends and neighbours called to congratulate her at her winter home in Blyth. The guests were welcomed by her neice, Mrs. W. Bradnock and Mrs. William Knox and Miss Margaret Jackson. ZURICH 262-5430 St. Mark's Anglican Church Women met for their January meeting at the home of the president, Mrs: , Donald Cartwright. She opened the meeting with a welcome to all and read the scripture lesson from the Gospel of St. John. The president also read the history of the Anglican Church in Auburn. Mrs. Thomas Haggitt read the history of the Anglican Church in Canada. Mrs. George Schneider gave a paper on Indonesians and their baptism. The members decided to purchase a carpet sweeper for the church. The minutes were accepted as read by the secretary Mrs. John Daer. The financial statement was given by the.treasurer, Mrs. Andrew Kirkconnell. The roll call was answered by a Bible verse containing the word Pharisees. The travelling apron received a penny for each letter in "Vision of the Temple". Rev. Keith Stokes was in attendance. Tea was served by Mrs. Cartwright assisted by Mrs. George Schneider. Congratulations to Miss Judy Arthur on her graduation in her nursing career from the Owen Sound Regional School of Nursing on January 16. The graduation ceremony took place in Division St. United Church, Owen Sound. As this was the first graduating class of this new regional school of nursing all 24 graduates were presented with special pins to mark the occasion. They were presented by Miss Catherine Smith of Montreal, the first director of this school Miss Edith F. Bell, director, presented diplomas and pins. Miss Arthur has accepted a position in Kincardine Hospital until March 8 when she goes to Montreal to take a post graduate course for six months in neurological and neurosurgical nursing and operating room technique, This teaching hospital is affiliated with McGill University. Miss Arthur received many gifts to mark her graduation. Guests present were her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Arthur, Mark and Greg Arthur, Miss Laura Phillips and Miss Vicki Graham of Goderich. Her grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Keller of Dublin were unable to attend due to ill health. At St. Mark's Anglican Church last Sunday where Miss Arthur is a member, Rev, Keith Stokes extended congratulations to her and her bouquet of roses adorned the altar. Ten girls attended the first meeting of the Auburn Canadian Girls in Training of 1971 Tuesday evening, .January 12 at the home of Arva Ball. During the business meeting it was agreed that future meetings would open with the C.G.LT. Purpose and one verse of the C.G.I,T. hymn. Officers were elected as follows: president, Arva Ball; vice-president, Sherry Plaetzer; secretary and press, Holly Elliott; treasurer, Heather Elliott, Mrs. Maurice Bean is the group leader. Mrs. Bean led in a group discussion of the book of Genesis and Exodus. The girls recalled the visit to Citizenship Court at the Huron County Court House in Goderich in November. The girls told what they thought prejudice was and gave their views. It was decided that all newcomers to our country should become Canadians and take their Citizenship seriously. The meeting was closed with taps followed by a game and lunch. The Auburn Presbyterian group of the Women's Missionary Society met at the home of Mrs. Donald Haines. Mrs. Haines took charge of the meeting and read a poem. Mrs. W. Bradnock read the scripture lesson and gave the New Year's meditation, "Into the Unknown". Mrs. Frank Raithby gave the history of the hymn, "Another Year is Dawning" by Frances Havergill and Mrs. Bradnock sang it as a solo accompanied by Mrs. Haines on the electric organ. Mrs. Haines took the topic, The Negro Situation in North America and a discussion period followed. Mrs. Haines played a medley of hymns on the organ. Mrs. Wilfred Sanderson took charge of the business period and opened with prayer. " The minutes were accepted as read by the secretary, Miss Minnie Wagner. The roll call was answered by each member paying their membership fees. A card of thanks was read from Mrs. Edgar Lawson for the plant sent at Christmas time. As Auburn is the nominating committee for Huron Presbyterial a discussion took place and more letters will be sent to complete the slate. An invitation to attend the Arthur Circle's meeting was extended to all the members. Plans were made to hold the next meeting at the home of Mrs. Frank Raithby. A dainty lunch was served by Mrs. Donald Haines assisted by Miss Frances Houston. Mrs. Ralph Munro returned last week from spending Christmas and New Years with her son Glen Youngblut, Mrs. Youngblut and family at Ottawa and later with her son Robert Youngblut, Mrs, Youngblut and family in Toronto. Her son Robert brought her home. 11 is a structural technician. After serving on various Canadian Bases, he was transferred to CFB Clinton in 1967, and resides with his wife and three children at Apartment Bldg F-6 in Adastral Park. The Explorer Group met in the Church on Tuesday evening with the president Miss Cathy Taylor in charge. Miss Beverly Cantelon read the scripture lesson, prayer by Miss Marie Ann Kalbfleisch. The minutes read by Miss Sylvia Wilson and the roll call was answered by saying where the Explorer money should be sent. Miss Bonnie Dawson took up the Collection and it was dedicated by Miss Anne Marie Heard, Miss Janis Chuter gave the treasurer's report. The Study Book was taken by Mrs. Barry Taylor and the craft period was led by Mrs. Eric Chuter and the meeting was closed by the president. A Reception was held in the township hall last Saturday evening for Mr. and Mrs.'J. H. F. Broeze. After a very interesting programme they were called forward and presented with a purse of money.
