Redmen were unable to get untracked in the first game of the season on Friday against the Vikings in Goderich losing 57-49 but they coasted to an easy win over'South Huron on Tuesday. Their big game comes up on Friday when they take on Stratford Central. It is good basketball and those around town are missing something by not watching. -staff photo. The Minor Hockey Association is holding its final meeting Thursday, January 14, at 7 p.m., before the Annual Minor Hockey Weekend next week. Highlighting the two nights and all Saturday activities will be the games between the visiting Clinton -New Yorkers and our local Bantams and Pee Wees. Saturday night's game between Hensall should be a real thriller as both clubs are tied along with Goderich for second place in zone 1. Chairman, Jerry Holmes, and his committee have arranged a big weekend with all the boys and girls who participate in our Minor Hockey Program taking part. * * A big thank you is due to the Kinette Club of Clinton, as their recent' purchase - the new ice-making machine, has made a big improvement on the condition of the ice at the Community Centre. As Jim and Doug become used to the equipment, the time required to make and scrape the ice is going to be greatly reduced. * * An excellent crowd turned out last Friday night to see the little Wee Wees playing against the Base. The Base carne prepared with 32 players and won the game 8 to 1. This coming Saturday the 8-year-old's team will travel to Brussels - to participate in Brussels Winter Carnival Mite Tournament. The many boys who play in the house league teams are having games arranged with local house league teams from Blyth, Goderich, Brussels and the Base. This Saturday at 7 p.m. the Kinsmen Ponies play Stoneybrook. (Their Coach is Frank Murch). Then the Bantam "B"'s play one of Goderich's Bantam teams. Monday, January 18, Brussels will be here to play a Squirt team at 6:30. Ken Taylor and Bob Mann are helping with the Pee Wee "B".s. They tied the Base 3-3 in their first game. Speaking of tournaments, the Clinton Recreation Annual Tournament's Entry, Chairman Doug Andrews, has received several applications over the weekend. * to The fans who missed last Sunday's exciting junior game with Belmont should come out Friday night, as Belmont will be back for their final regular visit. The Colts must win every game from now 'till the end of the schedule. The Juniors put on a good show to stop Hensall-Zurich Co-Ops 5-1 last Friday night, but then went down to a 4-3 loss at home Sunday night to Belmont and a 7-2 drubbing by Mitchell on Tuesday. Stu Mustard scored a pair of goals in the win and another pair in the loss to Belmont to Allen Howse stars Collewe Allen Howes, son of Mr. and Mrs. I)on Ilowes, R. R. 4, Clinton, Ontario has been named to the E. C. A. C. All-Eastern Division 1 hockey Learn for his fine play against Harvard last week. Goalie Ilowes, a St. Lawrence University junior, stopped 31 Crimson shots in a 2-1 loss to Harvard. Wednesday night, January 6, Howes paced the Larries to their first shutout victory in 57 games against Colgate. Ile had another brilliant performance kicking aside 34 Red Raider shots. St.Lawrence faced Middlebury at Appleton Arena on Saturday night, Jan. 9, and Howes will be in the nets for the Lorries. A film entitled "The Management of Chronic Respiratory Insufficiency" will be shown in the Auxiliary Room, Alexandra 11,1arine and General Hospital, on Thursday, January 21, 1971; 7:30 p.m. All persons suffering from "breathing" diseases will be interested. The film was made at the Sanatorium Board,' Rehabilitation Hospital ; Winnipeg, Man. and the meeting will be sponsored by Huron-Perth Tuberculosis and Respiratory Disease Association. In the home doubleheader on Saturday night the • Mitchell clubs came from behind in both games to earn a 6-6 tie in the Bantams and a 8-5 victory over the Midgets, Randy Millar put Clinton out in front 2-0 before Kevin Aikens scored his first of three for Mitchell, John Graham and Rick Cameron gave the Fish and Garners a 4-1 lead midway through the second period. Mitchell came back strong With three goals to tie the game up. Then Rick Cameron gave Clinton a 5-4 lead at 13:25. A defensive lapse lead to two quick goals within a minute to put Mitchell ahead 6.5. At 16:06 Randy Millar set up Cameron's third goal of the game for the tying goal. Two minutes of relentless pressure by Mitchell earned them four goals from the 16:18 mark to 18:30 in the third period. Clinton had gone ahead 5-4 on Mike Anstett's goal midway through third. Cal Fremlin, Danny Colquhoun with two and John Vanloo scored the earlier goals. The loss left Clinton tied in second place with Hensall and Goderich. Bowling CLINTON-BLYTH Krazy Kats lead the Clinton-Blyth Ladies' League, now in its second series. They have 13 points followed by Dare Devils, 11; True Grits, 10; The Blues, 10; Pat's Pals, 10 and Hopeless Six, 6. TEEN LEAGUE • Mort's Marauders, 54; Art's Strikers, 51; Debbie's Pals, 43; Glenda's Pros, 36; Mary's Boys, 35. . Debbie Johnston had the top girl's single of 230 and double of 571. Randy Blake had the top boy's single of 228 with Leo Horbinuik, the triple of 528. BAYFIELD-BLUEWATER Sharks have 60 points, Crabs, 57; Suckers, 57 and Minnows, 44. Corrie Koerie had the ladies' high single of 236 and Ruth Makins had the top triple of 616 and average of 206. Joe Koene led the men with a 258 single, 701 triple and 234 average. JUNIOR LEAGUE Heather Hart led the girls with a 182 single and 277 double. Brad Atkinson had a 210 single. Terry Gordner led the boys with a 392 double. Lucky Strikes lead the league with 57 points followed by Pinrollers, 46; Dare' Devils, 38; Tigers, 31. TUCKERSMITH MIXED Tony's Tigers are in front With 66 points while Dave's Deets have 60; Bill's Bunnies, 50; Ed's Elks, 37; Mel's Monkeys, 32; Weses Weasels, 28. Jo-Aim Aidwinkle had the ladies top single of 258 and triple of .577. Mel Grattan led the Men with 280 and 667. Shirley Hargreaves had the hidden score of 190. Team Captain, Billy Crawford, lead the way with four goals and three assists. Mike Anstett scored the hat trick. Dan Colqultoun with two and singles by Bill Cantelon, Randy 'Millar and Cal "Zeke" Fremlin completed the scoring. In the Wednesday night's game in Zurich, Danny Colquhoun scored at the 21 and 50-second mark to give Clinton a 3-3 draw. Zurich went ahead 2.0 The local Pee Wees, Bantams .and Midgets played seven games this past weekend in WOAA, Zone 1, action. Five different players scored in the 5.1 victory by the Ponies over Zurich, David Counter and John Feeney put Clinton ahead 2-1 after two periods. David Clynick, Mike Gibbings and Paul Gibbings found the mark in the third. The win helped the Ponies to stay in fifth place with 11 points, 'one point behind Mitchell and Hensall. Brian Campbell scored the only goal for the home team. In Clinton on Sunday, the Juniors desperately needed a win to keep them in the fight for the final playoff spot. But Belmont, one of the hotter teams in the league of late, proved too much for them. Jim Barr, Doug Hepburn, Gary Horton and Dave Gauthier led the Sunsets. Wayne Arthur scored the only other goal than Mustard's pair. Tuesday night the Juniors went to Mitchell to play the only other team they had a chance of catching. But the team they.. started. off the. season against by drubbing turned the tables with a 7-2 win. Friday night the Juniors get another crack at Belmont at home, then travel to Tavistock on the Sunday.
