After singing of verses 1, 3 and 4 of Standing at the Portal, Mrs. Cudmore led in a prayer for 1971. Psalm 90 was read by Mrs. Wm, Townsend and Mrs. C. Tebbutt read the meditation. Mrs. A. Mowatt read letters from four missionaries — the Hudson's in Brazil, South America, the Bayliss' in Korea, the Howatt's in Japan and the Campbells in Kingston, Jamaica. She then led in prayer for missionaries. Mrs. C. Tebbutt read an article titled The Bible To-day. Midgets win big Mrs, Cudmore react an arucie by Mr. George Goth — Crepe hanging won't save the world. The roll call — A New Years resolution or an ambition for 1971 was answered by 21 members and one visitor. During the business period the group decided to sponsor a girl from Christian Childrens. Fund in the Cameroons, We.,t Africa, to do sewing and knitting for Children's Aid, collect baby Friendship Guild St. Paul's Friendship Guild enjoyed a pot luck supper for their first meeting of the New Year. Mrs. (Rev.) Sharpies installed the officers for 1971 including: President, Mrs. Allison Lobb; First V i ce-Presiden t, Mrs. Joan Thompson; Secretary, Mrs, Wesley Willis UC has meeting ' items to send to Hong Kong, One of the ways to raise moneys, a fun thing, Hobo teas in May. Congregational meeting Wednesday, January 20th, with pot luck dinner. Presbyterial meets in Mitchell, February 17th. Love chose cancer as her topic, .a subject which as Madame Currie said "needs more to be understood than feared." Early detection by taking all the known precautions is still our best formula. It is not so much just a human disease as a runaway growth and has been known to man from his earliest records. In the. business section there was discussion of our understanding to help with Crafts and entertainment at the Queensway Nursing Home in Hensall one afternoon a week during February. Mrs. K. Lovell, Mrs. E. McBride, Mrs. Bert Faber, Mrs. David Turner and Mrs. Ross Broadfoot were the volunteers. Mrs. Faber mentioned the continuing need for used stamps to be sent to the Leprosy Mission. Acknowledgement came from the London Rescue Mission for the Christmas time boxes of food and clothing. Mrs. Harold Jones expressed courtesy remarks to all who had taken part and the closing prayer was pronounced. Hostesses for an enjoyable social time were Mrs. L. Lovell, Mrs. R. "rotating" President for Kippen U.C,W„ in 1971, Mrs. Tom Reid, ably conducted the meeting setting the mood for the New Year by a slightly-prodding, amusing poehi and by welcoming everyone, Mrs. Edgar McBride's Worship service indicated the direction in which we should all try to go in the New Year, The Christian has a need to work toward the future while there is still time. A firm secure faith is essential for each one of us. Mrs. Reid conducted the business session. The roll call was answered by a goodly number by payment of membership dues, Mrs. David Cooper played a much appreciated piano solo, Minutes of the December meeting were read by Mrs. E. McLean. Committee reports were given by the corresponding Secretary Mrs. William Consitt; the Sunshine report was given by Mrs. Reid for Mrs. N. Dickert. The Rose report by Mrs. Laird Finlayson; the Visiting report by Mrs. Robert McGregor. Mrs. E. Kyle gave the TreeSurer's report in the absence of Mrs. K. McLellan indicating a good year just past. HELEN DALRYMPLE Mrs. Helen Dalrymple passed away in Huronview on Monday evening, January 11, in her 104th year. She was the former Helen Fairbairn and leaves to mourn her loss two daughters, Mary, Mrs. Walter Layton, Bayfield; Sadie, Mrs. Jack Horton, Dodsland, Sask; and three sons, James Walters, Waterford, Mich.: Bert Walters, Kippen, and Edward Walters, White Fox, Sask. Three sons and one daughter predeceased her. She had 106 descendents. She was a member of Ontario Street United church and a member of the W.M.S. Public funeral services conducted by Rev. H. W. Wonfor were held from Beatty Funeral Home, Thursday, January 14, to Clinton Mausoleum, and later to Turner's Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bruce Walters, Lloyd Walters, Gordon Walters, Edward Layton, Clarence Walters and Robert Walters. Flower bearers were Glen Layton, Keith Layton, Wilmer Walters, Melvin Walters, all grandsons. The Lion Midgets bombarded Seaforth goalie with 53 shots in their 12-5 win in Seaforth Saturday. Mike Anstett lead the way with five goals and two assists. Brian Kennedy netted two while singles were scored by John Vanloo, Jim Cameron, Rick Cameron, Bill Crawford and Dave Fawcett. Following this game the club travelled to Mitchell Monday night and suffered a 6-4 defeat. Mitchell went ahead 6-0 then the Lions roared but not enough. Dave Fawcett with two, John Vanloo and Danny Colquhoun scored.
