The Lucknow Sentinel, 1954-12-01, Page 13WEDNNESDAY, DEC. 1st, 1954 ’ ■ ‘ '.I—.............UJ.V v ; THYME this ’n’ that . by ROSEMARY Yesterday I was at a tea. We were greatly intrigued by a couple of the decorations. The table centre covered about 18 inches or so; at one end \vere three tall, red candles in tall candlesticks, and at the other end, 2 shorter white candles in shorter ' candlesticks. In between was a graceful arrangement of red poinsettas, greenery, and white mums. A fine big snowman and a Santa Claus gave a Christmas touch from their places on an other table. The snowman , was made of three white bells, grad uated in size, the biggest on the bottom, of course. The tops were either cut off each bell, or else they were placed down very flat. The snowman was topped with . a smaller red bell,. Arid Santa was composed of red bells, topped with a,white one. Usually I’m almost too late with my Christmas ideas, so hope I’m starting in time this year. I am partial to Christmas trees of all sizes for decoration, and I’ve been looking around and found several places where they can be used to advantage. Our stairway curves up from the dining room, and a tree on the table by the foot of it will be ^ery effective against the ivory of the stairway wall. You might have a similar spot. y A small tree on the coffee table would be attractive, flank ed by fat green candles in hold ers made -from scraps of plastic foam,., sprinkled--with artificial snow, and dotted with tiny gold and silver balls . . . ./.anything that your imagination sees as ef fective. ____ ................ An old-fashioned brass jardin iere is a decorative container for a tree. , We always like our table mir ror built/into" a winter scene, with mounds of cotton batting “snow”,, a plastic Santa and six tiny reindeer, .dashing over the mirror lake, tiny artificial trees tucked in among the snowbanks, and my little stone house, the iron bank thjd I have had as long as -I can remember, that figures in so many 'decorative schemes. Strange how at Christ mas time, it is the old familiar, oft-used decorations,! and decor ative ideas that are the most popular with the family. She tucked cones," pine~"cdhes, spruce, and some tiny ones, touched with gold, silver, red and white paints, here and ’ there among the branches, or hung them in great sprays from strings of various lengths; from some of them she hung long streamers of bright crepe paper in various lengths, at the, ends of which were glued some of the . more colorful cards, The house had a v^er.y Christ massy look. / You can always fill the cookie jar well in advance. . ._fianish .
