GROUP Table manners and the setting for a’ formal dinner was the topic when the Tiger Ddnlop arid Dun­ gannon Women’s Institutes were guests of the Colwanash Junior Institute on Tuesday evening; October 19th. The guest speaker for the ev-. ening was Mrs. George Filsinger from Goderich Who gave a very interesting talk. She^ said, when setting a table for an afternoon tea and candles are used the iblinds should be pulled, and that a small plant tp the table often helped show it • off; She also warned against trying out new dishes on guests. Mrs. Filsinger showed the proper way to cut a cake and answered the many questions "Which arose. Miss Doreen Lamb introduced Mrs. Filsinger and Mrs. Herb . Stothers. of the Dungannon Wo­ men’s Institute very ably thank­ ed her. At the Junior Farmers meeting * Elwin Junkin, agricultural tea­ cher from the Clinton High School was the guest speaker. He said that we here in southwestern Ontario are greatly. blessed_ii.th_r— "^rTnW^ches'of good top soil. . He told how the .farmers farther to the north only have about one inch of soil covering the rocks. Mr. , Junkin went on to say that where the top soil is thin it is' not profitable to farm with trac­ tors because the fields are so small and cut up by the rocks. The bazaar held in Teeswater Saturday afternoon by the Ladies Aid was a success. Baking and candy were much in demand. FORMER KINLOSSITE TELLS OF MANITOBA MISSION WORK The Afternoon and Evening Auxiliaries of the W.M.S. of tbe United Church held their Autr umn Thankoffering in the church parlors on Thursday evening, October 21, with an attendance 01 75. Mrs. Russell Robertson pre­ sided, The opening hymn and prayer by Mrs. N. J. MacKenzie was followed with the scripture and meditation "by Mrs. Ken Muri die. Miss Helen Thompson gave a very firie residing and a pleas­ ing duet was sung by Mrs. Mor­ gan Jonnsion . and Mrs. Raynard Ac.ker.t, The guest speaker, Miss Mar­ ion Hodgins of Ethlebert, Mani­ toba, very capably told us of ner work in . that mission field, a er message was very inspiring and enjoyed bv-all present. The speaker was thanked by Mrs. Burt Roach. Miss Hodgins is a daughter of, the late Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hodgins of Concession 10, Kin­ loss, and formerly taught school at Belfast. 3he is. at present on furlough from the Ethelbert Mis­ sion and was warmly greeted here by former friends. lhe closing hymn was sung and prayer offered by Mrs. R. Rob­ ertson. • .. j. ■ 1......... .-ri 1 ■ Olivet W.M.S. The October W.M*.S. meeting was held at the home of Mrs. Herb Clayton with Mrs. William Arnold as guest speaker. Mrs. Oliver McCharles was in charge ' of the program group, the roll call being Thanksgiving thought, giving hymns were sung and Shirley Brooks sang a solo with Phyllis Clayton playing an in­ strumental. The lesson was read by. Mrs. Herb Clayton; readings were given by Mrs. Walter Dex­ ter and Mrs. Henry and every­ one enjoyed the report given (by Mrs. Arnold.
