Election In Ashfield Monday For Reeve, Council, Trustees Gra- In Ashfield Township next Monday they will go to the polls, to-elect nbjr ballot a reeve, ..four cbUricillors arid three school, trus­ tees. Highlight of this full slate of* candidates is a three-way bat­ tle for .the reeveship, The slate"is as follows:' For Reeve Cecil Blake Elmer Graham Kenneth MacKenzie For Councillors (four to be elected) John Bradley Tom Howard * Donald MacKenzie Andrew Ritchie Reuben Wilson . For Sehool Trustees (three to be elected) Walter Alton Gordon Finlayson Marshall Gibson Jack Gould . For the reeveship Elmer hain is aspiring to a fourth4erm^ arid is opposed iby two former councillors, Cebil Blake and Ken­ neth MacKenzie. The latter was - ago, _in_-1948,- iri a 9-man run for three council seats. That spirited battle result-‘ ed after it was necessary to call a second nomination to fill three vacant council seats, Gecil-has Had three years on the Board. He filled the vacancy when Councillor Graham stepped up to the reeveship; Both candidates ran a council election last year with Blake polling a tremendous vote at Dungannon, and heading the poll with 522 votes,. MacKen­ zie with 409 votes was in third place, ten votes behind John Bradley who polled 419. Andrew Ritchie received ,383 votes. Mr. Bradley and Mr,. Ritchie are the two “old” members seek-1 ing re-election as councillors. | They have! both had a five-year term oh the Board. The three new aspirants are Tom Howard, "Donald-MacKenzie and Reuben Wilson. ' For School Area trustees, the three retiring members have all qualified. They are Walter Alton, Gordon Finlayson _an£L-Marshall- Gibsori, With Jack Gould as the new candidate in the field. SUGAR IN GAS CAUSES EXTENSIVE CAR DAMAGE A local resident is walking these days while repairs are be- , ing made to his car which -was. i extensively damaged by. some 1 person or persons putting sugar in the gas tank. The car stopped on the highway and when towed to the garage a preliminary in-, vestigation revealed the crystal- ized sugar. LADY OF NINETY FRACTURES HIP -■ J? ’ Mrs. Ewen MacKenzie, 90-year- old Lucknow resident, is a pat­ ient in Wingham Hospital with a fractured hip. She suffered the injury last Wednesday afternoons Mrs. MacKenzie’s daughter, Miss Muriel MacKenzie, has been ill in Wirigham, Hospital, and Mrs. MacKenzie was staying at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Agnew. She suffered the injury when she fell as-she went to answer the door. Norisle, which has tied up at Owen Sound for the winter.
