" / ’ ■ ' The storm was ushered in by ^a- terrific- hail storm—about 8.00 p.m. In town the hail pelted down like marbles and alleys. Two miles south pf the village , there was:little or rib hail, but midway between there - was. a harrow swath with hail stones almost as big -as golf balls. The *hail fell in such quantities that it could be shovelled up. About ten' o’clock a violent electrical storm struck with tor­ rential rain, that flooded cellars, caused severe washouts, and for a brief spell brought traffic prac­ tically to a standstill as . visibility dropped to zero. * About 11.00 p.m. on Moriday a tornado-like gale swept across the district hitting Port Albert, Dun­ gannon,. St. Augustine and Bel- girave districts and" into Morris. ’Township, leaving damage run­ ning ip^o many thousands of dol­ lars.. " ■ _ . . The storm cut a narrow swath that did not stnke the Nile to the south, nor above the 6th Con­ cession north of Dungannon. At least ten barns in East Wawanosh and Morris townships are down flat and" demolished. Trees were uprooted, and roads ’blocked in the St. Augustine dis­ trict, arid orchards ruined in the path~of the storm?—7;—;. ■ ■ ■---- Power was off in some areas and phorie lines out. Poles north of Dungannon were down. Windows in Ben. Mole’s home were shattered by shingles torn from the barn. DUNGANNON STUDENT WON QUEEN’S SCHOLARSHIP Kenneth Brown, son of Mr. and ~Mrs<Wilbur-Brown oLDungan- non, won the William Wallace Near $100 scholarship for his standing in second year electrical engineering at Queen’s Univer* sity, Kingston. Kenneth had seven first, 3 seconds and a third in the term exams. The 20-year-old ybuth is taking. a course this summer in .tele­ communications at Clinton RCAF radar station. , ———0— . ------------- - ■■■■■• Hackett’s W.M.SA , The W.M.S. meeting was held at the home of Mrs. Walter Alton with 15 members, 6 visitors and 2 children present. This was Grand­ mothers meeting and it was a pleasure to have six former mem­ bers present on this occasion. Hymn 252 opened the meeting,- followed by the Lord’s prayer, in unison. The scripture reading was taken by Mrs. Cyril Campbell. Mrs. Bert Alton gave the report on the meeting in Goderich in April.' .’Mrs. Albert Alton and Mrs.. Wilkins gave" readings followed 'by an organ solo by Mrs. Spence Irwin. Mrs. Cyril Campbell told an interesting story of: a child. Hymn 249 and prayer by Mrs. Wilkins. closed the meeting.
