The Citizen, 2011-08-25, Page 7THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, AUGUST 25, 2011. PAGE 7. The Walton TransCan faced some of the most adverse weather on record over the weekend, however, organizer Chris Lee says it really showed him the dedication of their fans. “We were down a little on entries from the start in the younger and older groups,” he said. “But attendance, except for Saturday and Sunday, was good. We had 80 per cent of what we normally have. “It’s good to know that people have that enthusiasm.” While not all the races did happen, most did and fans got to see the Swiss Missile Julien Bill, who recently was crowned MX3 World Champion nearly capture first place in the MX1 race, finishing second behind Colton Faccioti. Delays, cancellations and the slightly lower attendance on the weekend can be attributed to hard rains on Saturday, tornado in Goderich and tornado warning across much of the area on Sunday. “All in all, it was a really good week,” Lee said. “We had perfect conditions and people were raving about the track until Saturday.” Lee said that a huge part of what made the weekend races happen was his crew working long hours to keep the tracks as rideable as possible. The Friday night euchre, hosted by Jean and Delphine Dewar at Cranbrook hall, had six tables at play. It was a good week for all until the final day, when the torrential rain ended race day, one race short of being completed. The torrential rain of course was part of the devastating event of a tornado touching down in the centre of Goderich. Information and pictures show the Square destroyed. Siemon asked if someone from Morris-Turnberry should be included and MacLellan said it wasn’t necessary. “They’re happy to contribute their part whichever way we go,” he said. “They just want us to get going.” A date for the meeting had yet to be scheduled, but MacLellan was hoping it would take place this week sometime.
