The Walton TransCan faced some
of the most adverse weather on
record over the weekend, however,
organizer Chris Lee says it really
showed him the dedication of their
fans.
“We were down a little on entries
from the start in the younger and
older groups,” he said. “But
attendance, except for Saturday and
Sunday, was good. We had 80 per
cent of what we normally have.
“It’s good to know that people
have that enthusiasm.”
While not all the races did happen,
most did and fans got to see the
Swiss Missile Julien Bill, who
recently was crowned MX3 World
Champion nearly capture first place
in the MX1 race, finishing second
behind Colton Faccioti.
Delays, cancellations and the
slightly lower attendance on the
weekend can be attributed to hard
rains on Saturday, tornado in
Goderich and tornado warning
across much of the area on Sunday.
“All in all, it was a really good
week,” Lee said. “We had perfect
conditions and people were raving
about the track until Saturday.”
Lee said that a huge part of what
made the weekend races happen
was his crew working long hours to
keep the tracks as rideable as
possible.

Walton has grown quiet again
after the completion of the Walton
Parts Canada Transcan. It was a
good week for all until the final day,
when the torrential rain ended race
day, one race short of being
completed.
The torrential rain of course was
part of the devastating event of a
tornado touching down in the centre
of Goderich. Information and
pictures show the Square destroyed.
Friends of ours happened to be on
the Square at the time and report it
was a very scary experience. Details
of their experience are a little fuzzy
at this time as my information is
coming through a third party,
because they have no phone.
Margery Huether had as her
guests, Mary McCall, Audrey
Beuermann, Dorothy McNichol, and
Maxine Marks. They had their
dinner at the seniors dining inSeaforth followed by a drive to theWalton area, visiting in Brussels andthen over to Westfield where they
visited Pauline Gulutzen. They
finished off with a light supper at
Tim Horton’s in Clinton.
Margery, John and Lisa Huether
attended the wedding of Jessica
Pennington and Zachary Fielder on
Saturday, Aug. 20. The wedding was
held at the groom’s farm in the
Goderich/Nile area. Jessica is the
daughter of Earl and Mary
Pennington and the granddaughter
of Allan and Alice Searle, formerly
of Walton. Margery was happy to
see her nieces and nephews
attending from Royal Oak,
Michigan. They were Barry and
Edie Saunders, Len and Julie
Saunders and Dianne and Garry
Beach.
Duff’s United Church is holding
an outdoor service at the home of
Lorne and Bonnie Glanville at 11
a.m. this Sunday, Aug. 28. Note the
change of time and tell your family
and neighbours. Please bring lawn
chairs for seating and a dish for the
potluck lunch to follow. The Duff’s
United Worship Committee will
meet Sept. 7 at 7 p.m. and a joint
board meeting will be held Sept. 13
at 7:30 p.m. in Bluevale.Happy birthday to a surprisedEmerson Mitchell! Wife Phyllisplanned a surprise party for her
husband and pulled it off.
The couple celebrated first on
Friday by attending the Paisley
Heritage Farm Show. They enjoyed
their day out and Emerson thought
that was that. Sunday morning
following church at Duff’s United,
cake and coffee was served to all
attending and happy birthday was
sung to Emerson, Gloria Wilbee and
Marion Godkin. Later, Sunday
afternoon, to his surprise, family,
relatives, former neighbours and
current neighbours began to arrive at
his home.
The near 40 guests filled the
house, up and down, and in the
garage. They enjoyed hamburgers,
baked beans and corn on the cob.
They had a wonderful time
celebrating Emerson’s 85th birthday.
Congratulations Emerson.
Home to Neil and Marie
McGavin’s were Heather and Bryan
Kelso and family. They attended the
wedding of Michael Johnston, son
of Terry and Theresa Johnston of
Atwood. The very low-key affair
was held in a tent at Terry and
Theresa’s home. The bride Heidi,
wore her mother’s graduation dressfor the simple ceremony, and had noattendants. The rain held off untilafter pictures and they held a lovely
party for everyone.
Get-well wishes to Andy Pethick
and to Deb Ross, who both broke
their ankles last week. Both have
casts and are walking a lot slower
than usual.
Celebrating birthdays this past
week were Jim Armstrong, Susan
Nichol, Andrew McDonald, Jacob
Flood, Christine Gulutzen, Nicole
McIntosh, Emerson Mitchell, Gloria
Wilbee, Terri Gulutzen, Pat Nolan,
Brad Shortreed, Viola Travis, Blaine
Hackwell, Cheryl Lee, Earl
Pennington, Sarah Fraser and Kelly
Hackwell. Happy birthday to all.

“Also a renovation would keep the
library in the centre of the village,
so that’s easier access for every-
one.”
Before the next scheduled council
meeting on Sept. 6, MacLellan
proposed a meeting with councillors
from the Brussels and Grey Wards,
as well as himself and Steffler to
discuss council’s options.
“We should make a final decision
and bring it back to the next council
meeting,” MacLellan said.
Siemon asked if someone from
Morris-Turnberry should be
included and MacLellan said it
wasn’t necessary.
“They’re happy to contribute their
part whichever way we go,” he said.
“They just want us to get going.”
A date for the meeting had yet to
be scheduled, but MacLellan was
hoping it would take place this week
sometime.

Walton quiets down after TransCan
Mud and motos
Competitors at the Parts Canada TransCan at Walton
Raceway had some trouble keeping the wheels above the

and riders and enthusiasts alike were covered due to the
