Council ops for wood fibres instead of rubber mat for playground accessibility Continued from page 1 equipment for the asking price. Anderson she felt council and the community got the best “bang for its buck” with the tender recommended to council for approval. There were other tenders, Anderson said, that used a rubber mat for the floor of the playground that would make the equipment fully accessible, but that the mat would cost over half of the initial price, leading to far less equipment. With the accepted tender, Anderson said, the company would use compacted wood fibres for the base of the equipment, making it fully accessible, but at a fraction of the cost of a rubber mat. The motion was approved to allow the purchase of the equipment for an amount that is not to exceed $41,000.
