Carol Mitchell, MPP for Huron-
Bruce, joined members of the
Huron Business Development
Corporation and Huron Arts and
Heritage Network in Clinton today
to announce two important
investments that will create jobs and
increase access to local food and
cultural events in Huron County.
The Huron Business
Development Corporation received
a grant of $117,000 to expand the
existing local Good Food Box
program. The Huron Arts and
Heritage Network was awarded a
$52,000 grant to hire an events
programmer to organize five
cultural programs throughout the
county.
“Agriculture, heritage and the arts
are closely linked in Huron-Bruce
communities. I’m pleased to
announce funding today through the
Ontario Trillium Foundation that
will create jobs, support our local
farmers and celebrate our unique
rural heritage and traditions,” said
Mitchell.
The Huron Good Food Box
(GFB) is a volunteer-based program
that provides a monthly box of fruits
and vegetables to the residents of
Huron County for just $15. Running
since 2002, the GFB works to
ensure that all Huron County
residents have access to fresh, local,
and nutritious foods at affordable
prices through wholesale
purchasing. The box offers great
value to the customer and is also
beneficial to the local economy
through the support of local
farmers.
“Funding provided by the Ontario
Trillium Foundation will help
expand the awareness and scope of
the Good Food Box Program across
Huron and Perth Counties.
Increased Good Food Box sales in
local homes, businesses and public
institutions will translate into
healthier food choices for area
residents, as well as new markets for
local farmers,” said Janice Dunbar,
Chair of the Huron Perth Farm to
Table Network.
The Huron Arts and Heritage
Network is the new format of the
Huron County Heritage and Culture
Partnership that grew, with support
from the Huron Tourism
Association to develop and enhance
arts, culture and heritage activities,
events and celebrations that
enriches life for residents and
animates the visitors’ experience of
the county. Heritage and Culture
Partnership, launched in early 2001
has now expanded and developed its
focus and development, supporting
the creation of the Celebration of
First Nations, the first-ever Crafting
Connections, an intergenerational
hands-on arts experience, as well as
partnering with HTA to produce the
first Taste of Huron.
“With the Ontario Trillium
Foundation’s support, Huron Arts
and Heritage Network will continue
our work with individuals and
groups that offer arts experiences,
enabling us to strengthen
partnerships and develop programs
to enhance our county’s
rich cultural and heritage
celebrations,” said Laurel
Armstrong, Chair of Huron Arts and
Heritage Network.

One of the members of the Brussels Build Group, Kathy
Nichol, told the group that they need to focus on retaining
