The downstairs of the Branch was busy when the “Tour of Duty” motorcycle poker rally stopped in. They were riding to raise money for the “Wounded Warriors”, a program that supports Canadian soldiers and veterans wounded overseas. It was a scenic route ride that began in Seaforth and toured 250 kms. of Huron County roads with stops at many local Legion Branches to answer quiz questions of military significance. The day ended in Seaforth with a barbecue, door prizes and awards. There were about 50 bikers and friends who stopped into the Branch to cool off, find the answers and look over the artifacts at the Branch. Comrades Ross Bennett and Eric Ross greeted and spoke with many of the men and women on the tour. It was a nice afternoon with so many at the Branch. The Brussels Community Bible Chapel met as usual on Sunday morning at the Branch. They will continue to meet at the Legion until the first of September. The Sunday Night dance had a good crowd of near 75 enjoy the music of a new band. The Country Classics band played an excellent variety of music for the crowd and we hope they will be able to return again sometime. The Branch is doing the food booth for the Optimist slo-pitch tournament in a couple of weeks and Comrades are asked to set aside some time to help. Expect a call from Jo-Ann or Sandra. Vintage plane gets to Brussels Continued from page 2 celebration. A family reunion was part of the weekend, as relatives from as far as Scandinavia came to share family love, stories and of course food. A logistical feat was accomplished last week by a consortium of folk of questionable legality, yes both the feat and the persons. A vintage Luscombe was transported from Stratford to Brussels, airport to airport with minimal repercussions. Details were well executed using unique resources. Who would have thought of Burke’s tents and plane transport or a ’49 Ford tractor as the hauler. So if you experienced an optical illusion last week early one morning between here and Stratford – a lusty Luscombe heading to the ditch, steered by a known teacher accompanied by men with aviation experience, it really was the true picture, hard to believe, but still true. So enjoy the rest of August. Bye now, Betty G.W. ‘Tour of Duty’ poker rally stops at Brussels Legion Healthier Huron East through provincial fundingOntario is helping people of allages and abilities in Huron Eastimprove and maintain their mostvaluable asset – their health.
