Zurich tops Walton 10-3 in six

Shawn Daw threw a one-hitter on
Aug. 3 as the Brussels Tigers shutout
the Blyth Barons 11-0 in a Huron
County Fastball League contest
played at the Optimist ball park in
Brussels. The game lasted just five
innings.
Ryan Clancy was the only
successful batsman for the Barons as
he rapped out a single against the
almost unhittable Daw.
Doug Shaw smacked a three-run
homerun and added a single for the
Tigers. Ty Sebastian had a triple,
double and a single. Andy Baker
contributed a triple. Wade
Stephenson had a double, with
singles being rapped out by Daw,
Brian McArter and Adam Corbett.
Adam Cronin was the starting
pitcher for the Barons with Scott
Bromley taking over in the third
inning. Veteran player Steve Hewitt
said the Barons were not hitting the
ball. “We didn’t hit the ball,” he said.
“We didn’t get any runs.” He also
added that the team played terrible
defensively.
On the other side, Tigers coach
Murray Kellington said they got all
the bounces. “It was one of those
games when everything goes right,”
he said. “We got great hitting and our
defence was good.”
The Tigers hosted the Wroxeter
Rippers on Aug. 10. Game results
were not available at press time.
They travel to Walton on Wednesday
for a make-up game against the
Brewers beginning at 8 p.m.
The Barons host the Wingham
Hitmen on Friday, beginning at 7:30
p.m.
Walton downed by
Zurich Rangers 10-3
The Walton Brewers hit an
obstacle in the road last Wednesday
as they fell 10-3 to the Zurich
Rangers in a Huron County Fastball
League contest played at the Walton
ball park.
Jeff Robinson had a double and
two singles for the Brewers. Barry
Young rapped out a single.
Paul Dolmage was the starter for
the Brewers, with Scott Cox taking
over in the relief.
“This is just a little bump in the
road,” said veteran player Dolmage
“It’s a long season.”
The Brewers were in Wingham on
Wednesday for a game against the
Hitmen and travel to Zurich on
Friday for a return match against the
Rangers. The Brewers host the
Brussels Tigers on Wednesday in a
makeup game beginning at 8 p.m.

Several agencies in Huron County
are working together to ensure that
all Huron County children have the
necessary school supplies. Donation
boxes have been set up in many
locations around Huron County.
Food banks, Centres for
Employment and Learning, United
Communities Credit Unions, the
Wingham Salvation Army and the
Children’s Aid Society are accepting
donations.
How can you help?
When you are back-to-school
shopping for your own children, buy
extra supplies. If you don’t have time
to shop, financial donations are
accepted and a tax receipt will be
provided. Items needed include:
• backpacks and lunch bags
• paper – plain, lined, graph
• pencils, crayons, pens, markers,
highlighters
• notebooks
• binders
• scissors, rulers, glue sticks,
erasers, pencil sharpeners
• pencil cases, geometry sets
