Narcisse’s Narcisse Cantin a larger than life figureContinued from page 12factories, organ factories, carriagefactories, toy factories and built amassive 200 room hotel.”Don’t bother looking for any ofthose in St. Joseph though, as thebuildings were razed.Unfortunately for Cantin, when hefinally received the go-ahead for hisidea to turn St. Joseph into a majorport city, World War I broke out and put his plans on hold. Once the warwas over, the project neverrecovered. While the play itself is humorousand entertaining, McGregor said thata huge part of its draw is the musicinvolved.Scored by Arlene Darnbrough, themusic is played live throughout theshow by Darnbrough. The play is performed at the St.Peter’s Church property just north ofSt. Joseph with the stage surrounded by hay bales (to blockthe noise from Highway 21) andrisers and chairs with seating foraround 320.The play is presented by the St.Joseph and Area Historical Societyand finished its first run on Saturday,July 23, and its second, and final, started on Tuesday, July 26 and will run through until July 30.Tickets are $20 for adults, $12 foryouth and are available at the BlythFestival Box Office. While theshows on Tuesday, July 26 andWednesday, July 27 were sold out, tickets may still be available for theJuly 28-30 shows. While the tickets do need to be ordered and paid for through theBlyth Box Office, this can be donevia phone and credit card, and thetickets can then be picked up at theshow.A contigency plan for weathercancelleations is in effect and endedup being utilized on July 21 as theheat ended up being too great.McGregor explained that thosewho came to the show were given a
sticker on their ticket and, after
being recorded, they were usable for
another play.
Isaac Nicholson decided he
wanted his summer job to be unique,
and ended up finding something
delicious to help him on his way.
Nicholson, along with friend
Phaedra Scott, using a recipe of his
grandmother’s that Nicholson found,
have been selling home-made
pretzels at the Blyth Farmers Market
for several weeks now.
“We were interested in doing this
ever since we saw the ad looking for
vendors in The Citizen,” Nicholson
said.
Business has been good so far,
according to Nicholson, and repeat
customers are a big part of that.
“People keep coming back,” he
said. “That’s a good thing, I guess.”
Every Saturday, Nicholson and
Scott make five to seven batches of
their home made pretzels, each
consisting of seven pretzels, and
they’re more than happy to share the
recipe.
“It’s not a secret recipe or
anything,” Nicholson said. “We set
the recipe out with the product so
everyone knows what’s in it.”
Nicholson and Scott felt that this
was preferable to pounding the
pavement to find other summer
employment opportunities.
“This sounded a lot easier than
going out and looking for a job,” he
said. “It’s a good way to make a bit
of money.”
The Blyth Farmers’ Market runs
from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. on
Saturdays and can be located at the
corner of Dinsley and Queen Streets.
