Isaac Nicholson decided he wanted his summer job to be unique, and ended up finding something delicious to help him on his way. Nicholson, along with friend Phaedra Scott, using a recipe of his grandmother’s that Nicholson found, have been selling home-made pretzels at the Blyth Farmers Market for several weeks now. “We were interested in doing this ever since we saw the ad looking for vendors in The Citizen,” Nicholson said. Business has been good so far, according to Nicholson, and repeat customers are a big part of that. “People keep coming back,” he said. “That’s a good thing, I guess.” Every Saturday, Nicholson and Scott make five to seven batches of their home made pretzels, each consisting of seven pretzels, and they’re more than happy to share the recipe. “It’s not a secret recipe or anything,” Nicholson said. “We set the recipe out with the product so everyone knows what’s in it.” Nicholson and Scott felt that this was preferable to pounding the pavement to find other summer employment opportunities. “This sounded a lot easier than going out and looking for a job,” he said. “It’s a good way to make a bit of money.” The Blyth Farmers’ Market runs from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturdays and can be located at the corner of Dinsley and Queen Streets.
