HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Citizen, 2011-07-28, Page 21THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, JULY 28, 2011. PAGE 21. Continued from page 6complaint in his Wingham apartmentbuilding. Again as pointed out by
Reeve Neil Vincent at the time this
was a complaint that NH Council
had no jurisdiction over either. It was
a landlord tenant complaint and
again that is a provincial issue not
local council.
Regarding the reference I made to
speeches and letters that he wrote,
please see the letter to the editor in
The Citizen on May 26. “At the
North Huron Council meeting of
May 16, I publicly thanked Rick
Elliott on behalf of the people of
Blyth for standing up against the
Avon Maitland District School
board,” Sorry but he did not thank
him on behalf or in fact of the about
80 per cent of the people I have had
discussions in regard to this topic.
I understand that Vodden feels
passionately about this topic and that
is his right. However, it is not his
right, or the right of anyone, to use
his elected position to carry on a
battle that is lost in council. I
understand that you feel the war is
still raging and I urge you to take it
to the proper battlefield and let’s getit out of council once and for all.In fact, based on Vodden’s
comments, it would appear that he
plans to continue to pursue his
crusade using the mandate the voters
gave him. “The AMDSB is no friend
of North Huron, as far as I am
concerned. That opinion will
continue to inform my voice in
council and my voting decisions.
That too is democracy”. No, that is
abuse of power.
Vodden we gave you the nod to
represent us to the best of your
ability, not your own personal
agenda. Sometimes as a politician
you must bite the bullet and do what
the majority of your constituents
want not what you want. Perhaps it is
time for you to come out from
behind your computer and speak to
the people in the community you
pretend to represent. I take exception
to Vodden’s comment that “giving
lip service” “that’s what we do in
council”. Really you think that is
what you were voted in to do? After
attending so many meetings though I
am afraid he is right. That is what
they do.You make reference to NorthHuron council that it “has been
taking very positive steps in
conjunction with the community to
mitigate the economic damage being
done to Blyth.” Well you criticized
me for statements with no
“substance” and this one definitely
has none. Or is there something you
are not telling us? That seems to be
pretty standard for this council.
Immediately after the election
someone stood up in council and
asked what council and the
councillors were going to do to meet
all of their election pledges to be
more open and communicative with
the people of North Huron. The
response from our now Deputy
Reeve and Blyth councillor was “it’s
your job to ask”. Well now I am
asking. What are you doing?
Because quite frankly I do not see
anything.
Do not, as in the past, start
bringing up projects like the
Emergency Services Training Centre
and others and claiming victory. This
is a project that was started and
pursued long before this council anda big thank you to Steven Sparlingon this one and the tremendous
restoration that they did on Queen
Street. What I want to know is what
has this council done? Once in awhile it would actually be nice tohear a progress report. Or is that
asking too much?
Bill Knott.
