The Radar Circle organization will be welcoming the 54th annual Normoska antique car event to Blyth from August 7-12. The group, which represents one of 15 regions in the Ontario chapter of The Historical Automobile Society of Canada, will be bringing more than 100 antique vehicles to the Blyth Campgrounds and taking them on tours of local centres according to Everett Hessels, one of the four local organizers. Hessels, joined by wife Cheryl and Barry and Betty Young, will be welcoming members of the Historical Automobile Society of Canada to Blyth on August 5 through the 12, with a special local focus on Blyth being held on Thursday, August 11. Sunday the group will bedeparting from Blyth to visit HuronPark with events planned there. Similar trips to Goderich on Monday, Listowel on Tuesday, Wingham on Wednesday and Auburn and Clinton on Friday will be held. August 11 will be the Blyth day, with the group visiting local businesses like Davara Pottery Studios and taking in the history of the area with visits to Wayne McClinchey and his service station memorabilia as well as a presentation by Brock and Janis Vodden regarding the history of Blyth. Local organizations will be catering to the group while they are in the area with the Blyth Lions preparing a welcome meal for the group, the Londesborough Lions preparing a breakfast on August 13 and a banquet on Friday, August 12being prepared by the LegionLadies. The event was held in Dorchester, near London, in 2010 and will be held in the Ottawa area next year. Blyth last played host to the group in 2003 and the membership loved itaccording to Cheryl.The Circle Radar will be hosting a cruise night on the campgrounds on August 10, showing off their own vehicles as well as welcoming other local antique car buffs to show off their best vehicles.The name of the event, Normoska,comes from the groups intent to travel “North to Muskoska” from their other regularly visited places. Buildings up $1 million in M-T The value of building activity for 2011 in Morris-Turnberry is nearly $1 million higher than last year, even though there are about 10 fewer building permits issued. Steve Fortier, chief building official, told councillors at their July 19 meeting that the value of projects undertaken is higher than last year. There was $1.13 million in building permits for July alone, bringing the total to $2.9 million. The biggest single project was an agricultural livestock building valued at $655,000. For the year to date, there have been permits for seven livestock barns or additions to barns, totalling nearly $1.4 million. To the end of June there had also been 10 permits for agricultural accessory buildings with a total value of $222,500 and two permits for renovations to commercial buildings valued at $141,500. Permits for two single detached houses valued at $330,000 were issued in July. To date there have been permits for four houses with a value of $870,000.
