By Jim Brown The Citizen Hail to the champs The Walton Brewers were unable to repeat as champions this year at the annual Brussels Tigers fastball tournament, the honour of winning the big game went to the Kitchener Selects who beat the Harwood Corners, the team that eliminated the Brewers this year, in the final by a score of 6-4. (Jim Brown photo) Despite the hot humid weather the Wingham Golf and Curling Club had a fantastic week. On Tuesday, July 19 the ladies got things off to a great start holding their monthly fun night. The theme for this month was Hi Tea so the ladies came with some pretty fancy hats and many of the girls enjoyed some tasty tea in their tea cups. The team of Peg Cameron, Janet Haines, Joyce Adams and Ann Ross captured first place for the evening. Like always the gals had a great time and shared many stories and lots of laughs. The Wednesday senior men had 21 golfers out on a hot steamy morning. Gerry Edwards took home first- place honours followed by Bill Brown and Glenn McMichael. Lloyd Lamont sank the longest putt and Ed Daer fired a 37 for the low gross for the day. The Thursday night men had to deal with temperatures around the 45°C mark with the humidity but still managed to have 31 dedicated golfers take part in their weekly night out. The winners were: closest to the pin, Dan McPherson and Dave Gamble with Jason Goodall and Trevor Machon receiving longest putt awards. Pete Inglis was hidden score winner while Jay Marston shot a tidy 36 for low gross for the night.
