Before the meeting began, junior leader, Reba Jefferson led the members in a game of Catch Phrase. President Sophie Jefferson opened the meeting with the pledge then led roll call which asked members when and why it’s important to wash theirhands properly. Many membersanswered when working with food, visiting a hospital, dealing with animals and more. Members learned that it is a good idea to practise proper hand hygiene at all times. Maisy Jefferson read the minutes from the last meeting. Leader Mary Ellen Foran then talked about their involvement in the children’s games at the Port Albert Reunion andmembers signed up to help.Mary Ellen then led the club in a discussion about the two methods of hand hygiene: soap and water, and alcohol-based hand rubs. The club talked about the proper way to wash hands and the different kinds of soap. As well, they went over the proper way to apply hand rub, which includes using a loonie-sized amount, spreading it all over the hand’s surface, on finger tips, between fingers, back of hands and thumbs. Then rub together until the product is dry. To demonstrate the spread of germs, Mary Ellen painted Reba’s hand and Reba proceeded to shake all of the members’ hands. Even the hand of the last memberwas a bit dirty. The club then puttheir new knowledge into use. With clean hands and hungry stomachs the club began to cook. The group made three recipes: taco salad, crunchy granola and strawberry banana smoothies. While enjoying their creations the club discussed the achievement program which will include a talk from a dietician and a visit to the North Huron Museum to see the old hospital equipment. Sophie closed the meeting with the motto. The next meeting will be on Thursday, July 21 at 6:45 p.m. at the Jeffersons’ and members are to have their brochures complete. On Sunday, July 17 (Pentecost 5) Summer Series: Songs for the Journey continues at Knox United Church with Rev. Tom Murray. The quality of our leadership is directly proportional to our discipleship. Having examined Jesus’ mission mandate and approach to mission, we turn to discipleship and leadership. Pastor Alan Hirsh of Australia in “Forgotten Ways” writes, “If we fall in the area of making disciples, we should not be surprised if we fall in the area of leadership develop- ment. On Tuesday, July 26 at 2 p.m. the community is invited to help celebrate those over 80 at the annual celebrative birthday party. The lower hall will host this time of fellowship, fun and celebration of life. Continued from page 1 excavator to move salt within a dome when the excavator broke down and a maintenance person was called. While waiting for the maintenance person, Nesbitt exited the excavator and began clearing salt from the machine, at which time the conveyor under the dome began moving and salt began flowing through the grate in the dome’s floor. Nesbitt was pulled through the grate with the moving salt and was asphyxiated. As a result of this incident, the Sifto Canada Corporation pled guilty (as an employer) to failing to ensure that the grate in the bottom of the dome was guarded to prevent a worker from being drawn in and was assessed the $140,000 fine. $140,000 fine handed to Sifto 4-H members wash their hands By Linda Campbell Call 357-2188 PEOPLE AROUND BELGRAVE
