A pair of homeruns helped the
Walton Brewers outgun the Blyth
Barons in a 15-7 shoot at the Walton
ball park in Huron County Fastball
League play on July 12.
Darryl Houston connected for a
lead-off homerun in the first inning
and Jamie Wicke hit a four-bagger in
the fourth inning to make the score
15-7. The game was called after five
innings because of the seven-run
mercy rule. Houston also had a
double and single.
Andrew Van Vliet had a triple and
two singles with Adam Verkley
going 3-3 at the plate with a double
and a pair of singles. Steve Hoff had
a double and a pair of singles and
drove in four runs.
Scott Cox was the starter on the
mound for the Brewers with Scott
Leonhardt taking over in relief to
preserve the seven-run margin of
victory.
Shawn Bromley, Steve Cook and
Mike Bromley each had a triple and
single for the Barons. Ryan Clancy
connected for a double and Dana
Doherty rapped out a single.
Darcey Cook was the starting
pitcher for Blyth with Mike Bromley

Barons senior player Mike
McDonald said they committed too
many errors. “We were not mentally
in the game,” he said.
Brewers senior player Paul
Dolmage said everyone had a big
night at the plate. “The bats were
alive tonight,” he said.
He indicated the Brewers received
exceptional defence from Van Vliet
in right field.
Walton hosted the Stratford
Memorials on Tuesday. Game
results were not available at press
time. The Brewers are in
Sebringville next Wednesday for an
8:45 p.m. contest against the

Complaint filed against mayor
Mayor William (Bill) Dowson of
Bluewater township has been
accused of having a pecuniary
interest when it comes to dealing
with wind turbines.
Dowson, who admits to having a
lease with Ontario Hydro on his
land, is the target of a complaint
made by William MacDougall, a
resident of Bluewater, who states
that, because Dowson and his
children signed agreements with
Canadian Green Power Investment
& Management Services Inc. he
shouldn’t be allowed to make
decisions regarding wind turbines.
Dowson stated that his lawyer had
advised him that he was not acting
with a conflict of interest until the
land is actually being considered for
development. Simply signing the
lease doesn’t put him in a conflict of
interest.
Other municipalities have faced
councillors having to declare
conflicts of interest when it comes to
wind turbines, including Ashfield-
Colborne-Wawanosh, who, when
dealing with turbine issues, has three
of their council members, including
Reeve Ben Van Diepenbeek and
Deputy Reeve Neil Rintoul, claim
conflicts of interest.
The complaint, which was filed
under the Municipal Conflict of
Interest Act, stated that Dowson
contravened specific sections of the
act.
A hearing is set to be held on
August 10 at the Goderich
courthouse.
The Municipality of Bluewater
includes the villages of Zurich,
Hensall and Bayfield and the former
townships of Hay and Stanley.
