Brussels Tigers trump Exeter with strong pitching
The Brussels Tigers received
strong pitching from Ty Sebastian
as they doubled up the Exeter
Braves 4-2 in Huron County
Fastball League play on July 6 in
Brussels.
The Braves put two runners
across the plate in the top of the first
inning, but those would be the only
runs they would score as Sebastian
and the Brussels defence shut them
down for the rest of the game.
Sebastian helped his own cause at
the plate as he connected for a triple
and a double. Josh Kellington was
good for a triple and Brian McArter
and Matt McCall rapped out one
single each.
Sebastian went the distance in the
pitching circle to pick up the win.
“We received very strong pitching,”
coach Murray Kellington said after
the game.
He indicated the Tigers also had
good defence and received some
timely hitting. “Everyone played
well together,” he said.
The Tigers were in Fullarton on
Sunday. The Tigers hosted the
Walton Brewers on Wednesday and
then host the Zurich Rangers next
Wednesday beginning at 9 p.m.
The Walton Brewers hosted the
Blyth Barons on Tuesday and host
the Stratford Memorials next
Tuesday beginning at 8 p.m.
The Blyth Barons host the
Fullarton A’s on Friday,
beginning at 7:30 p.m. and then host
Zurich next Friday beginning at
7:30 p.m.

Grizzlies maul Barons in fastball
The Blyth Barons are continuing
to struggle at the plate and in the
pitcher’s circle.
The Goderich Grizzlies put three
runners across the plate in the top of
the first inning on July 1 in Blyth
and the Barons were unable to
bounce back as they fell 10-5 to the
Goderich club.
Player-coach Mike McDonald
said the three runs by the Grizzlies
in the opening inning was
something the Barons were unable
to recover from.
“They scored in every inning,” he
said. “We just couldn’t get anything
going.”
The Barons scored three runs in
the bottom of the fifth inning to keep
the game going as they trailed 9-0.
He added that the Goderich
pitcher, Greg Gordon, pitched a
good game.
“We were unable to hit him. He
kept us guessing at the plate,”
McDonald said.
Kirk Stewart was in the pitcher’s
circle for the Barons. Adam Cronin
took over in relief, with Darcey
Cook finishing up in the circle.
Steve Hewitt had a triple and a
single for the Barons. Mike Bromley
had a double and single with Mike
Kerr hitting a double. Dana Doherty
rapped out a single.

Wow! What a week the Wingham
Golf and Curling Club enjoyed last
week.
Over 50 children came out to
participate in the annual junior golf
clinic. It was fantastic to see all the
smiling young faces who hopefully
some day will become the future of
the club.
Head instructor Ed Daer along
with Don Bone, Doug Neil, Greg
Tiffin, Dave Nesbitt and many other
volunteers did a super job with the
kids and without these great
members taking time to help, this
clinic would not be possible.
Thanks guys! Some of the female
members, along with many of the
Wednesday morning senior men
gave up their regular days to
encourage this large group of eager
children.
On Thursday, July 7 the men’s
night had 60 golfers take to the
links on a beautiful summer
evening. Dennis Knox and Doug
Neil, along with Warren Rich
claimed the awards for longest
putts. Other winners were, closest
to the pin, Bob Johnston and Don
Bone and hidden score winners
were Greg Tiffin, Kyle Moran and
Scott McPherson. Joel Watson took
home the prize for most honest
golfer. Bone, along with Dave
Gamble and Joy Marston, shot good
rounds of 38 to tie for low gross
honours.
