I am honoured to
be voted
valedictorian this
year, even if it is
only because
nobody else would
write the speech.
Throughout the
years this class has achieved a lot
and I can’t deny the fact that we
have gotten in a lot of trouble too,
mostly in our senior and
intermediate years. We’ve made
mistakes and tried to learn from
them, we’ve shared fun times that
we will never forget and we all got
along for the most part.
In Kindergarten no one
remembers each other but we do
remember certain things like nap
time, after the very tiring play time.
We remember the clean-up song that
always got stuck in our heads and
we will never forget learning the
alphabet and always missing a few
letters when we told it to our
parents, not to mention the bragging
rights when we could count all the
way to 10.
But that was all prep for the hard
stuff in Grade 1 with Miss Mathers.
We had to go to school every day.
That was a tough adjustment. And
there wasn’t nap time or play time.
One thing that hasn’t changed is
counting the number of days we’ve
been at school. Except now we
count how many days are left. We
also learned more about the seasons
and the days of the week, stuff that
now is as easy as riding a bike. Oh
yeah, more bragging rights. We can
ride a two-wheeler like the big kids.
After we counted down to zero
days of school, we started again in
Grade 2 with Mrs. Walker. It was
time to get into reading chapter
books. I can guarantee that a lot of
us wish we still got to read books
with five words on a page. We also
became closer friends and Jeff was
added to the mix. We were also
introduced to the only game that
involved school that we actually
liked: the travelling game. It was
great if you made it all the way
around the world, but if you didn’t,
there was always tomorrow.
One day we travelled all the way
to Grade 3 with Ms Thomson. I
remember when the older kids told
us that she was the meanest teacher
ever. The only mean thing she did
was get us to learn more about
multiplication and start teaching us
division. In the end we’ll need it, but
it’s no fun. I know that today some
of us still don’t completely get it.
In Grade 4 some people still had
Ms Thomson while some of us
moved on to have Mrs. Culbert. It
was strange having a split grade. We
were so used to being in the same
class. This was also the year that we
started French with Ms Gardiner.
And again some of us still don’t get
French.
In Grade 5 we had all of our
Graduates have learned from mistakes and had fun
