It’s a time to celebrate what we’ve done in the past, as well as look ahead to what we’re going to do in the future. We can laugh at all that happened, smile even at the bad, and think back with thoughts of our friends, teachers and family. It’s hard to believe that it’s been all those years since we started kindergarten with Mrs. Hall, with all that’s happened throughout our time at Brussels Public School, to making it through Grade 8 with Mr. Westra. There were so many good days as well as bad days that it’s hard to remember all of them. Of all that has happened there are a few highlights like Mondays with Mr. Westra – when he got angry and slammed the door but the door didn’t catch and slammed right back at him, Camp Celtic with the bridge collapsing under the boys’ feet and falling into the creek and teachers finding secret love notes, like when Mrs. McKee received an embarrassing note that I gave to Austin when Hayden found it, or when we fell off the monkey bars or got ourselves into fights with our friends. There were people who pushed us down and there were people who helped us up when we fell. In the end we’re all friends and they’re still there at the end. Some think graduation is an ending and it means we’re finished, but I think we’ve only just begun. Our time at Brussels Public School has been a lot of things to us: awesome, memorable, interesting, or odd, mostly likely all of them. The new discoveries over the years include dissecting animal organs to spelling your own name; learning new things such as where babies come from or how to kick a soccer ball. All of our accomplishments mean something: whether we made it on in the free throw competition, learned how to ride a bike, learned how to read and write, they’re all important. There was good and bad with everything we did. From math to EQAO, from gym to track and field. There are things we were good at and things we wish we could have understood better. It’s hard to believe that it has taken us 10 years to get from Junior Kindergarten to this moment at the end of Grade 8. Today we are graduates together.
