The Walton Brewers had their lossless season interupted by the Wingham Hitmen last week. The Hitmen defined their name, forcing a mercy ruling in the sixth inning while ahead 12-3. (Jim Brown photo) The Walton Brewers were handed their first setback of the season in Huron County Fastball League play last Tuesday evening and the setback was quite a shellacking. Playing the defending league champions, the Wingham Hitmen, in Walton, the Brewers were handed a 12-3 loss in six innings. Trailing 9-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning, Walton put three runners across the plate to extend play. However, Wingham scored three runs of their own in the top of the sixth and then shut the door on the Brewers to end the game as the league has a seven-run mercy rule after five innings. Paul Dolmage started in the pitcher’s circle for the Brewers, with Scott Cox taking over in relief. Ron Stevenson had a pair of singles in three at-bats. Jeff Robinson and Scott Leonhardt each connected for a double. The Brewers are in Belmore on Friday for a game against the Stingers.
