I always welcome items from
community folk about happenings
in their families and Delores
Howatt, a proud grandparent, sent
this one my way last week. It is also
interesting to hear what the folk
who’ve grown up in our area are up
to these days.
Jim and Delores Howatt spent
June 1-5 in Winnipeg. They
accompanied Bert and Joan
Vandendool to the graduation
ceremonies of Laurie Vandendool
from the University of Manitoba’s
Law School. Also attending the
graduation were Laurie’s sister
Andrea from Barrie and her fiancé
and Laurie’s twin sister Kelly Ann
from Colorado. Following the
ceremonies, the graduating lawyers
and their guests attended a formal
dinner at the Fort Garry Hotel in
downtown Winnipeg.
The family toured the city of
Winnipeg and Dauphin, Manitoba
where Laurie has an articling
position with the Manitoba Justice
Prosecutions Services.
It was a fine holiday for, Delores
remarked, when families get spread
out pursuing their careers and
spreading their wings, it’s not often
that they can all spend time together.
Everyone is invited to the Ball’s
Cemetery memorial service on
Sunday, July 3 at 3 p.m. Rev. Gary

Fire!

The ladies who attended the Junemeeting of the LondesboroughUCW on Monday, June 20, enjoyed
delicious strawberry shortcake
dessert to begin their evening.
To set the idea for the time of
devotion/program the women
puzzled over a brain teaser game,
first solo, then in pairs and then in
small groups. Crystal Whyte gave a
power point presentation of church
activities entitled, “Celebrate
Londesborough United Church”. It
was remarked that everyone has
something to contribute to activities,
whatever the circumstances; that
many hands, minds, etc.
accomplished great results.
Talents, given by God, come in
many forms – music, leadership,
loving, caring, cooking and are
meant to be shared then they can
grow. A children’s book, with a
universal message, by Max Lucado,
titled, “Just the Way You Are” was
shared by Brenda Radford. The little
girl in the book was happy to share
her only gift, the gift of her heart,
something all of us should strive to
do.
Celebrating one’s talents was
further suggested in the poem,
“Heart Gifts” and the camp song,
“This Little Light of Mine”. Early
Christians were reminded of God’s
gifts of talent in the scripture verses,
1 Tim. 4:14, Acts 20:35 and James
1:7.
During the business part of the
meeting, items needing to be settled
before the summer break were dealt
with. A small change has been
made, effective Sept. 1 in the
prices charged by the UCW for
caterings.
