But with the memories in my heart,
You’ll walk with me forever.

And never part again.

Morris-Turnberry has offered a
grant to help cover the costs
of operating the Brussels
Cemetery.
At the June 21 meeting of council
Nancy Michie, administrator clerk-
treasurer, explained that she had met
with Jack McLachlan, clerk/chief
administrative officer of Huron East
over that municipality’s request to
help deal with a deficit of $77,908
for the cemetery as of Dec. 31,
2010.
Morris-Turnberry councillors had
asked for details on the number
of burials from their municipality
that had taken place in 2010.
Of the 25 burials last year, nine
had been from Morris-Turnberry.
The number varies from year
to year, Michie said, with one
year when there were only
three burials from Morris-
Turnberry.
Michie said she had approached
McLachlan with the offer Morris-
Turnberry had made to
North Huron to help with its
cemeteries: a grant at a rate of $250
per burial. Based on last year’s
number that would be a grant of
$2,250.
Councillor John Smuck said he
supported helping out but he
worried that if there were no burials
from Morris-Turnberry in some
years there would be no support at
all.
But Mayor Paul Gowing said he
felt the per-burial grant would work
out in the long run. “I don’t believe
we are liable for the [current]
deficit, but this will help with their
operating costs.”
He noted the cemetery had cut its
costs dramatically with volunteers
picking up much of the work
but “volunteers can only do so
much”.
