Music director was Floyd Herman. Rev. Gary Clark welcomed everyone to church on this first Sunday after Pentecost. Jordan, a friend of Rev. Clark’s, ran the power point. Rev. Clark drew everyone’s attention to the announcements in the bulletin. The call to worship, “Holy Spirit Come” was sung followed by the first hymn, “Come Let Us Sing of a Wonderful Love”. Jordan read the scripture from Matthew 10: 24-39 followed by the singing of “Hallelujah”. Rev. Clark’s message to the congregation was “Who’s On First?” Rev. Clark asked the question who is “Number One” and who is “Number One” in your life? The scripture tells us that Jesus is “Number One” in our lives. Many of the people didn’t realize that Jesus was being sarcastic when He was telling them the story in the scripture. He was trying to make a point that the disciples were just the same as He was. Jesus challenges us to be obedient. No one stopped Jesus when He turned the tables over in the Temple and showed His anger with what was going on in the temple. People who have power often show it in a violent way, with guns and being a bully. Jesus wants us to understand power and use it in the right way by looking after people who are not as well off as we are, to look after the sick and weak. Jesus showed His disciples what He meant by washing their feet. By looking after others it makes us feel good. Real Power is to give it away. The choir sang the anthem, “This is My Father’s World”. The offering was received followed by the response and the prayer of dedication. The prayers for the world and silent prayers were followed by the singing of The Lord’s Prayer. The last hymn, “For the Beauty of the Earth” was followed by the commissioning and benediction and the response “Amen”. Everyone was invited for coffee, cookies and fellowship after the service. Congratulations to Joe Fraser and Heather Little who were married on Saturday, June 18. Happy birthday to Quinton Hakkers who will celebrate on June 24. Happy anniversary to Lorna and Randy Fraser who will celebrate on June 28. Congratulations to all the Grade 8 graduates in the area. Job well done. The next step in their lives is one of the biggest steps they will take in their lifetime. High school is a big step and many friends that they made during public school will now be going to different high schools. We are glad to report that Gail Ulch is recovering at home and was able to attend her nephew’s wedding on Saturday. By Carlene Bremner, Isaac Nicholson and Eric SteeleCurrently in Grade 7/8 class, thestudents have been working on some assignments in French class. Students are to create a fake community and show places where to go or they can choose to create a kid’s book on places to travel and how they get there. The class is also busily completing their stop animation projects. Using a computer program called Paint, the students can create comic characters in different pictures and then create a slideshow. The Grade 1/2 and 2/3 classes took a field trip to Adventures in Wonderland on Friday, June 17. Then in the afternoon, the two classes went to London Children’s Museum where each class is learning in two different programs. The Grade 1/2 students will be learning about communities and the Grade 2/3 students will be learning about building. The school will be having a book sale from Monday, June 20 to Friday, June 24. Books will be 10 cents each and three for 25 cents. There are plenty of fiction and picture books available. The Grade 1/2 class has enjoyed learning about community life as they explored their community and surrounding areas. In a study of farm life, the class made butter to demonstrate the importance of the food sources and to learn how people in a community interact to support physical needs. The class also had a special guest, Blyth Lion John Stewart, who visited to present information about service dogs and showed how trained dogs can provide help for community members. The class has also finished a chapter on fractions in math. The class has also been studying fairness. The Kindergarten class went to Storybook Gardens in London and spent a fun day having a great time. They played in the splash pad, climbed the huge slides and spider webs, watched a puppet show, played with giant bubbles, observed the harbour seals as they were given their daily feeding, played in thesand, petted the animals at OldMcDonald’s farm, built enormousfoam blocks, found their way through a high-sided maze and had a ride on the carousel and miniature train. The class wants to thank the 10 adult chaperones who volunteered to go on the trip. The Junior Kindergarten students began their unit on insects. They talked about the three body parts each insect has (head, thorax, abdomen) and the six legs found on all true insects. Some insects also have antennae on their heads and holes in their sides for breathing. The Senior Kindergarten class worked on Father’s Day activities and concentrated on the letter “x”. The class has also been reviewing numbers from one to 10. They have been playing sight word bingo, building with tanagram shapes, making connections between storybook characters and themselves, writing journal entries about the trip and their fairytale connections and growing and observing bean plants. The class ishoping to grow a few very tallbeanstalks which can betransplanted at home for a tasty treat this summer. A head full of froth! (Charles Spurgeon) “I hate vain thoughts — but I love Your law!” Psalm 119:113 Many of you know more about your magazines and novels — than what God has written! Many of you will read a novel from the beginning to the end, and what have you got? A head full of froth when you are done! But you cannot read the Bible — that solid, lasting, substantial, and satisfying food goes uneaten, locked up in the cupboard of neglect — while anything that man writes, a best-seller of the day — you greedily devour! “Set your minds on things above — not on earthly things!” Colossians 3:2 A Grace Gem Submitted by: Immanuel United Reformed Church, Listowel, ON 519-291-1956 NEWS FROM BLYTH and continuing every Saturday until September 3 Fresh fruits & vegetables, home baking, jams, jellies, pickles, maple syrup, meat products Corner of Queen & Dinsley Streets Opening for the Season Blyth Area Farmers' Market Saturday, June 24 1:00 pm - 4:30 pm Jesus should be no. 1 Nice catch!
