The Walton Wonders ladies slo-
pitch team finally has a win for the
season. They played the Wild
Things on Thursday evening in
Walton as visitors. They opened the
game with two runs crossing the
plate and Wild Things earning one
back in their half of the inning. The
Wonders added four more runs in
the second and another in the fourth
with Wild Things adding one in the
bottom of the fourth. The Wonders
added two more in the sixth and the
Wild Things came on strong in the
bottom of the sixth to score five
runs to draw within two of the
Wonders.
A scoreless seventh and the final
score was 9-7 Walton. It wa a good
game and top batters for Walton
were Veronica Grobbink who was
4-5, J. McDonald 3-5 and Joanna
Wallace 3-5. The Bookies will
play Walton in Walton this
Thursday.
The Walton Brewers participated
in the Mitchell Mets Tourney on the
weekend. They played Friday night
against the Breslau Black Sox and
defeated them 2-1 in a close game.
They played two games on
Saturday facing the Mount Elgin
Mets first and winning 8-0 and then
the Rannock Rebels and defeating
them 9-1. They played in the semi-
final game on Sunday morning
against the Glanworth Jrs. and won
6-2 to put them into the finals.
It was a team of seasoned
veterans, the Mitchell Masters, they
faced in the final and a bad first
inning put the Brewers behind 4-0.
They chipped away at the score to
earn back the four runs and then the
Masters scored two more in the late
innings to defeat the Brewers 6-4.
The Brewers had everyone hitting
well for the weekend including
Scott Leonhardt, Scott McDonald
and Jeff Robinson having home
runs. The pitching staff of Scott
Leonhardt, Paul Dolmage and Jeff
Smith did a great job on the mound.
Congrats Brewers!
Celebrating birthdays this past
week included Sandra Lewington,
Laura Bowers, Joan McNaughton,
Matthew McKee, Emily Wilts,
Kaden Huether, Christopher Burke,
Kolton O’Neill, Hillary Bachert,
Tanner Boven, Colleen Collins
Smith and Shawn Rennick.

Seniors luncheon
The Brussels Legion held a seniors luncheon on June 6 to show how much its members
appreciate the wisdom and efforts of the seniors in the community. (Denny Scott photo)

McGavin Farm Equipment. The
farm of Lavern McClure also lost a
few trees and I heard a small section
of Cranbrook had some severe tree
damage. Two families I spoke to
report feeling their homes shake
during the height of the storm. One
family I heard is still trying to find a
missing lawn chair, a heavy lawn
chair, to their patio set.
The school buses had a slow time
of it on Thursday morning because
of the branches or entire trees down
on the roads and having to take
detours.
Hydro crews have had to work
steadily since the storm on
Monday night and then again
Wednesday night to get hydro back
to many.
We are thankful there was no one
hurt and the cleanup is almost
complete and that we live in a great
community where neighbours and
friends are always willing to lend a
hand.

Taking power from the people
A terrible thunderstorm with hard-hitting winds knocked over trees in Blyth including this one,
which pulled down power lines and damaged electrical poles, early on June 7. (photo submitted)

farm for lunch and an afternoon of
games and visiting. The male
members of the Knight family,
starting at the age of four and up to
80 or more, came out to spend time
getting to know uncles, grandpas
and cousins and have a day of fun.
They have a barbecue for supper and
everyone returned home tired but
full of memories of a great day
together.
We hope Patty Banks is a fast
healer as she has unfortunately
broken her finger. A clumsy
accident, but Patty is a trooper and
still managed to play at church on
Sunday.
Rumour has it that Edna McLellan
is celebrating a special birthday in
the next week. Edna has spent many
years volunteering her time and
energy to many local organizations
around the Brussels area and has met
many good friends in the process.
Edna spent many years as a Morris
Township councillor and always
tried her best for the township.
Seeing Edna has been such a
popular girl, I suspect a big party
should be in order, and all her
friends can come out and celebrate
with Edna.
