in Dungannon. The new executive includes London Area President Berniece Harris, Past
Huron West President Nancy Jardin, Tweedsmuir History Officer Wilma Higgins, Diana
Robinson the new president, Rose and Advocacy Doreen Marks and Audrey Fenton the
Public Relations Officer. The group, largely an advocacy group, discussed the importance of,
and problems faced by, local abbatoirs at their meeting. (Denny Scott photo)
Over-80 party set for July 26
The regular meeting of the
Belgrave United Church Women
was held at the home of Donna
Shaw, with Sheila Nixon’s group in
charge of the meeting. She opened
with a poem, “Come away from the
Din” and everyone answered the roll
call with mentioning something they
would take to a picnic.
Barbara Anderson’s worship was
on the theme of friendship and her
scripture was Exodus I, where the
king ordered Shiphrah and Puah,
midwives to kill all the boy babies
born. They did not do this, so they
became friends of the people. Jesus
also had many friends, from children
to the sick and elderly and especially
his disciples.
Muriel Coultes gave the
treasurer’s report and Pat Hunking
reported she had sent six cards.
The annual over-80 birthday
celebration was planned for
Tuesday, July 26 at 2 p.m. in the
church. Committees were put in
place to plan the celebration.
Sheila Nixon then did her program
on having a picnic and she had
brought many items you would take.
She talked about taking healthy and
organic food, and also what would
make a good gluten-free picnic. She
displayed her items on a blanket and
tablecloth with items to make the
picnic interesting. She discussed
why we go on a picnic, to rest, have
a visit with friends or maybe just
take a book to read. Other types of
picnics are garden parties, family
reunions and why not have a picnic
with God? She closed with a reading
“Today is your best day”.
The next meeting will be Sept. 6 at
7:30 p.m. The meeting closed with
the benediction and grace.
Donna Shaw served lunch around
the table.
Model from Belgrave goes to
Toronto modeling workshop
Former Belgrave resident Lisa
Black was discovered as a model,
did some modeling and then
auditioned and was accepted to
attend this year’s 19th annual
Canadian Model and Talent
Convention earlier this year in
Toronto. She attended workshops,
seminars, competitions, net-
working, awards, call-backs and
opened up contract opportunities.
There were 50 or more of the top
world modeling and talent agents
attending and scouting new talent.
Only 350 Canadian models were
invited to attend and Black was
honoured to be one of them.
This was an excellent opportunity
for Black to see and be seen by the
world’s top modeling and
talent agents, managers and
directors.
Black has a portfolio filled with
beautiful pictures done by both local
and internationally-renowned
photographers.
