June 2 is noted as being
‘confusion day’. I must have been in
such a state when I sat down to write
this column on June 5 after a
weekend away for I forgot to bring
readers up to speed on the trivia for
June.
The birth flower for June is the
rose. And we have already missed
observing Senior Citizens Day on
June 9. But for all of us with a
proverbial ‘bucket’ list June 19 is
National “still need to do” Day. For
any persons wondering ‘should I or
shouldn’t I’, June 26 is the
‘decide to be married day’. Try
observing ‘smile power’, day on
June 15 and see what results you
can affect. On June 16, find a friend
or two and celebrate ‘join hands’
day.
This month also includes some
food observances – eggs, cheese,
tacos, chocolate eclairs, cake,
donuts, frozen yogurt, strawberry
parfaits and ice cream sodas. And
apparently June 30 is Superman’s
birthday.
We have passed June 6 but all of
us more than likely remembered to
send a prayer heavenward for the
events of 1944 and the end of The
First World War resulting from D-
Day.

Outage cancels school water day
Higher and higher
Brooke Middegaal of Hullett Central Public School tried to
shake the bonds of gravity as she jumped up and over the
high jump bar at the regional track and field meet held at
Central Huron Secondary School on June 7. (Denny Scott

Water playday at Hullett CentralSchool didn’t take place as plannedlast Thursday. As we are all awarethat terrific storm that rumbled andflashed its way across our region in
the early morning hours caused the
hydro to be out in many areas.
School was cancelled that day as a
result.
The athletes at Hullett did
especially well at the regional track
and field meet in Seaforth on June 7.
In their age divisions these pupils
placed first or second with points
totals, Parker Gibbings, Connor
Driscoll, Emily Wilts, Caitie
MacDonald, Jeroen Van De
Wetering and Lexi Aitkin. Personal
and event bests were scored by some
of these young folk.
In addition to these six pupils,
eight others will compete at the
district meet on June 14 in Stratford.
These eight placed well in specific
events in order to advance. Well
done, athletes!
News of very interesting class trips
has been overheard as children finish
their studies and get ready for a
summer vacation. The Grade 8 class
marked the end of their elementary
education with a trip to Camp Celtic
from June 3 - 6. Jordan deBoer filedthis interesting account of theweekend.“After a year of fundraising,Hullett Central Public School Grade
8 class finally got to experience
Camp Celtic. After a three-hour long
drive on Friday morning, Hullett
arrived at Camp Celtic and
immediately were greeted by
friendly counsellors and directed to
their cabins for the weekend.
After a long night of camp games,
they got to sleep for the night. In the
morning they were greeted by an
absolute downpour of rain. With the
main field having two-foot deep
puddles, instead of staying inside,
Hullett enjoyed the rain by joining a
session that allowed the students to
go down a slip-n-slide and go
through the puddles. Despite the
freezing weather, the majority of the
Hullett Grade 8 class joined this
session and made the most of the
rain. After lunch Hullett enjoyed a
hike through the Cypress National
Park and a swim in Georgian Bay.
This was a very unique experience
for the class.
The next day, after a morning
packed with events, Hullett got to try
the unique rock climbing and high
ropes course Camp Celtic has to
offer. This was another new
experience that the camp gave to
Hullett’s Grade 8 students.
On Monday morning, Hullett
students had to say goodbye to the
camp and to new-found friends and
board the bus to home.

Forty-four young folk were
recognized for being part of the
Londesborough United Church
Sunday School on Sunday, June 12
during the Sunday School’s Annual
Promotion and Award Service.
It was a day of celebration and
each of the children received an
appropriate gift to mark the event,
depending on their age. For
example, one group received their
“Adventure Bibles” and another
group was gifted covers for the
Bibles received previously. The
Sunday School also recognized the
teachers with gifts. Gifts were
presented by co-superintendents,
Kim Hunking and Michael Radford.
The message, titled “Let’s
Celebrate”, was a power-point
presentation of pictures of Sunday
School and church persons and
activities prepared by Crystal
Whyte. The show was designed to
show just what a great thing it is to
be part of the Londesborough
United Church and Sunday School.
If we remember to focus on the
great things about our church the
problems encountered along the
way won’t seem so big.
The children joined their voices to
sing “He’s Got the Whole World in
His Hands” and “I’ve Got the Joy,
Joy, Joy Down in My Heart”. Terry
Fletcher accompanied them on his
guitar. Paige Gibbings shared her
talent singing the Disney theme,
“When You Wish Upon a Star” and
“What Can I Do to Show My
Thanks?” Welcoming congregants
to the service with piano numbers
were Sydney Hunking, Nicole
Whyte and Mary Kate Allen.
All aspects of the morning
service, from ushering and reading
the various aspects of the service
were done by the children. The
scripture passages were Mark 10:
13-16 and Mark 9: 35-37. The cover
of the order of service was designed
by Sydney Hunking.
Members of the youth group who
wish to go camping should contact
Crystal Whyte.
There will be camping on June 29
for Grades 5 to 8 and for the whole
group on July 1.
