The 2010 winners of the Musical
Muskrat Festival Rib-off are making
preparations to regain their
championship title as preparations
for the annual event are well
underway.
The Rib-Off, held in conjunction
with the Musical Muskrat Festival,
will be on Friday, June 10 at
Riverside Park. Teams are invited to
barbecue their ribs (must bring own
ribs and barbecues) in the park and
present them for judging which
starts at 5 p.m. so be creative as
judging is on product and
presentation. Advance tickets are
also available now for the Nearly
World Famous Rib Dinner hosted by
Grumpy’s Restaurant on the same
evening.
Dinner will be served from 5 to 7
p.m. and will include chicken or
ribs, corn on the cob, salad and a roll
for $15. This event has proven to be
very popular with residents and
visitors alike.
In the meantime the reigning
champs of the event seem content to
rest on their laurels or on their
“award-winning” recipe – and are
nonchalantly awaiting the 2011
event with great expectations of
capturing the flying pig once again.

PEOPLE AROUND
BELGRAVE
NEWS
FROM BELGRAVE
You may have noticed that the
clock on the west wall of Knox
United Church is back after its
absence of a few weeks while being
away to be repaired. The clock is
over 90 years old and there is a
wooden plaque inside with the
following inscription: “In loving
memory of Nurse Grace Neda
Ferguson who gave her life for the
service of others. Presented to Knox
Church Congregation Belgrave by
her parents W.H. & Margaret
Ferguson December 7, 1918.
Perhaps you would be interested
in knowing something about this
family. They lived on the fifth line of
Morris, (now known as Morris
Road) east of the highway in a log
house. There were four children in
the family who all received their
early education at the school across
the road, SS#5 (which is no longer
there) but all went on to be
influential citizens. After serving in
the army, the two boys continued
their education. Irvin Ferguson
became a lawyer and later was
appointed a Judge of the Supreme
Court of Ontario. Gordon became a
medical doctor, Elizabeth was a
school teacher and Grace was a
nurse. She nursed in many homes
during the flu epidemic following
the First World War, finally
succumbing to the flu herself. This
clock is in her memory presented by
her parents.
There are very few in our
congregation today who know the
history of this family who had their
beginning in the little log house in
Morris township so we hope this
information will be interesting and
will help you to appreciate this
clock.
