Currently in Grade 7/8 class,
students have been working with
drama and improvisation. A special
guest, Janine Plummer from the
Blyth Festival, has been teaching
students in Grades 2/3 and students
from Grade 5-8 and she is using
games and exercises to help the
students with acting. In gym, the
students are creating their own
games. The students must follow a
rubric to create a game or activity,
including safety concerns and rules.
Several classes, along with the
Grade 8 students have been
completing a “social issue” project.
The students are to pick a social
issue (e.g. racism, bullying, etc.) or
a virtue, and using any computer
program, must present it using
technology. The Grade 8 class has
been working with Mac Books to
create their yearbooks. The Mac
Books have better programs to use
that enable the students to include
special effects in their yearbooks. It
will also let the students work with a
different computer system.
The in-school chess tournament
was held on May 24-26. Members
of the Chess Club competed against
each other. The games were set up
like a professional tournament. The
winners were: first, Eric Steele;
second, Joel Snell and third, Isaac
Nicholson; tied fourth, Celena and
Michael Haskins.
The Grade 8 class journeyed to
Camp Celtic on Monday, May 30.
There will be more information on
that story in next week’s column.
While the Grade 8 students were at
Camp Celtic, Grade 6 students
completed EQAO. The students will
be completing two sections of
questions on math and language for
EQAO.
In the Grade 5/6 class, students
have been busy with their social
studies. The Grade 5 students are
beginning to write comparison
essays on two ancient civilizations
while the Grade 6 students are
creating special brochures on
Canada’s trading partners.
This week in science, the Grade
2/3 students have been learning all
about plants. They have been
observing their very own bean and
sunflower plants as they go from
seeds to plants, and using their
measurement skills to mark the
growth. They have also been
learning about the important parts of
a plant and their jobs, and how
plants make their own food through
photosynthesis.
They have really enjoyed
conducting various experiments and
learning about all of the important
products that can be made from
plants. The Grade 2/3 students
found it very interesting to learn that
some plants eat bugs and some even
smell like rotten meat.
God’s children run home when the storm comes on!
(Charles Spurgeon) (continued from last week)
“O that I knew where I might find Him!” Job 23:3
Job’s desire to commune with God was intensified, by the failure of all other sources of
consolation. The patriarch turned away from his sorry friends, and looked up to the
celestial throne--just as a traveler turns from his empty water bottle, and betakes himself
with all speed to the well. He bids farewell to earth-born hopes, and cries, “O that I
knew where I might find my God!”
Nothing teaches us so much the preciousness of the Creator--as when we learn the
emptiness of all crated things. Turning away with bitter scorn from earth’s hives, where
we find no honey--but many sharp stings; we rejoice to turn to Him whose faithful Word
is sweeter than honey from the honeycomb.
In every trouble, we should first seek God’s presence with us. Only let us enjoy His
smile--and we can bear our daily cross with a willing heart, for His dear sake!

Greeting worshippers at Blyth
United Church on Sunday, May 29
were Larry and Myrtle Badley.
Ushering were Brenda Brooks and
Hope Button. Floyd Herman was
music director. Steve Hearn from
Clinton was running the power
point as Blyth United was linked
with Sault Ste. Marie for the
induction of Rev. Gary Clark into
London Conference as President.
Church was an hour earlier than
usual in order to be able to see
history being made. By way of
technology, the congregation was
able to see and hear the service from
Sault Ste. Marie and they were able
to see and hear the congregation.
Those in Blyth were able to take
part in the service by answering
questions as a congregation that
they would support Rev. Clark in his
work as president of the London
conference.
The scripture was enacted by
members of the Sunday School
from Blyth – Logan Chalmers,
Bryce Glousher and Reid Button.
Rev. Clark’s message was “Stop,
Drop and Roll”. The theme was,
“We must stop and remember and
then proceed”. The prayers for the
world and silent prayer was led by
Rev. Clark. The anthem, “When you
Walk from Here” was sung by the
Blyth choir and congregation
followed by the benediction and
saying goodbye to Sault Ste. Marie.
Lori Brooks thanked Steve Heard
for helping out with the technology.
Everyone was invited for treats and
coffee after the service.
This was an experience that Blyth
United and London conference will
remember for years to come as
being a first.
