In the Grade 5/6 class, the students
have been studying fractions and
equivalents in math. In language, the
students have been working on
writing comparisons. The students
are comparing themselves to a
friend. They wrote a comparative
paragraph and also wrote a review of
Oliver Twist. The class is reading
Toad Rage as a whole-class novel. In
social studies the Grade 5 students
are working on Ancient
Civilizations and the Grade 6
students are looking at Canada’s
trading partners.
In the Grade 7/8 class, the students
have been continuing on with their
fractions in math. These students
have also been writing their own
reviews of the operetta, Oliver Twist,
using templates from other classic
reviews. In science, the class has
been having discussions on global
warming. The Grade 8 students are
busily creating their own individual
yearbook pages and writing their
valedictorian speeches.
In French class, the Grade 4
students have been working hard
building family trees. They have
also been drawing floor plans of
their homes, as they learn
vocabulary about families and the
different rooms of a house. In Grade
5/6, students are making storefronts
and individual outfits to take a walk
on the runway as they learn about les
vetements (clothing).
In junior kindergarten students
continued on with their study of
farm animals, focusing on sheep and
goats. The senior kindergarten
students talked about the fairytale
Puss ‘n Boots this week. They
gathered with their Grade 5 buddies
and practised making small words
using all but five of the letters of the
alphabet and then read together.
Both groups of Kindergarten
students loved the chance to watch
the school’s operetta Oliver.
The Grade 1/2 students are
continuing to focus their learning
around the community and their
community helpers. They continue
to explore many aspects
of the curricula through the
community.
In their visits to the Blyth Public
Library, they have found useful
resources to supplement their
learning. In the area of math, they
are learning the function and
importance of telling time.

Luke 10: 25-37.
Rev. Clark’s message to the adults
was “Please Won’t You Be My
Neighbour?” In 1960 Mr. Rogers
asked congress for funding for
public TV. He was worried that
children were learning too much
violence from cartoons available on
TV. We must teach our children that
their feelings are mentionable and
manageable.
One in five children suffer from
mental illness and there are no beds
in Huron or Perth County for youth
with mental health problems. We
should be a neighbourhood of care
for our children and our neighbours.
We have choices and we must teach
our children that they have choices
too. God loves us just the way we
are. Jessica Sparling is going to
India to help others and to learn of
their ways of life. The
Commandments are a guide to our
lives. Children don’t care what
colour another child’s skin is, they
all play together. They learn to love,
play and get along with each other.
The story of the Good Samaritan
shows us how to be a good
neighbour. He ended his message by
saying, “Would you be, could you
be, my neighbour?”
The offering was received
followed by the offertory response,
“Thanks Be to God”, the prayer of
dedication, the prayers for the world
and the singing of The Lord’s
Prayer, the singing of the last hymn,
“Love Divine”, the commissioning
and benediction and the choral
response, “When You Walk From
Here”. Everyone was invited for
coffee after the service
