Although Mother Nature isn’t co-
operating, the summer of 2011 is
almost upon us and Walton Raceway
is gearing up for its busiest summer
ever.
With events scheduled from the
end of May until the end of
September, Walton Raceway is
going to be the place to be for two-
wheeled and four-wheeled-off-road
motorsports.
In the past Walton Raceway has
only revolved around the famed
Parts Canada TransCan, which
traditionally takes place on the third
weekend in August. For 2011, there
are going to be many different
events to help make Walton a great
place to visit.
Kicking off Walton Raceway’s
busy summer will be the
entertaining Truck Mud Bog on May
29, with all of the rain the area had
endured; there will be no shortage of
mud to keep everyone dirty and
happy.
In keeping with the four-wheeled
theme, the CMRC ATV Provincial
race will be the first to take to the
main track on Saturday, June 4.
The following day, the
increasingly popular WEC Apex
Cycle Enduro will wind its way
around the Walton Raceway
property, this event will give riders
an opportunity to see every inch of
owner Chris Lee’s rolling acreage.
Just a week later on Sunday, June
12, the Thames Valley Riders will
line up for their first race of the year
at Walton Raceway.
With the following weekend being
Father’s Day, Walton Raceway will
be the perfect place to celebrate as it
hosts the annual Walton Double
Header CMRC Provincial on June
18 and 19.
With over 1,000 entries expected,
this event promises to be big and
exciting for spectators and riders
alike.
This race will also be the last
Amateur National Qualifier of 2011,
which means it may be the final
chance for southwestern Ontario
riders to qualify for the 2011 Parts
Canada TransCan at Walton
Raceway.
To add to the non-stop action at
Walton Raceway, the Steel City
Riders get their chance to race on
Sunday, June 26. The second Mud
Bog will be held on July 7 and then
everyone gets a long break in
anticipation for the final big event of
the summer, the Parts Canada
TransCan, taking place this year
during the week of August 15-21.
To round out the season before
summer break is over, Walton
Raceway will host the two-day
CMRC ATV Provincial Aug. 27 and
28, followed by the ATV Mud Bog
Sept. 3 and the Truck Mud Bog
Sept. 4.
In the fall, Walton Raceway will
welcome the always entertaining
CMRC Vet National on September
10 followed by the CMRC Fall
series race on Sept. 11 and finally to
close out another exciting year at
Walton Raceway the Thames Valley
Riders wil host a club race on Sept.
25.

The Blyth Barons picked up their
second win of the Huron County
Fastball League season last Friday
evening, as they scored a 5-3
decision over the Wroxeter Rippers.
The Barons held a 3-0 lead after
five innings, scoring single runs in
the first, fourth and fifth innings.
Wroxeter scored two runs in the top
of the sixth to trail by one run. In the
bottom of the sixth, Blyth put two
runners across the plate to restore
their three-run advantage. Relief
pitcher Dean Wheeler allowed a run
in the top of the seventh but that was
all and the game ended 5-3 for the
Barons.
Kirk Stewart was the starting
hurler for the Barons, with Wheeler
coming on in the sixth to take over in
relief and earn the save.
Getting singles for the Barons
were Darcey Cook, Chris Stewart,
Mike McDonald, Shawn Bromley,
Adam Cronin and Kirby Cook.
Player-manager Mike McDonald
said it was an excellent win for the
Barons. “We received great pitching
from Kirk [Stewart],” he said.
McDonald explained Stewart
hadn’t pitched in about four years
and decided to come back about
three years ago. “He’s done a great
job,” he said.
The Barons also received strong
defence. First-base player Kirby
Cook made eight put-outs himself.
McDonald said second baseman
Steve Hewitt made the defensive
play of the game in the third inning
as he made a diving catch to end the
Wroxeter portion of the inning.
The Blyth at Stratford game
scheduled for May 15 was
postponed due to rain and will be
made up at a later date. The Brussels
Tigers at Walton Brewers game on
May 17 was postponed due to rain
and will be rescheduled to a later
date.
The Barons were scheduled to be
in Wingham last night for a 7:30
p.m. game against the Hitmen. The
Brewers hosted the Belmore
Stingers in an 8 p.m. game and the
Tigers played host to Stratford in a 9
p.m. contest.
Walton travels to Stratford on
Sunday for a 7 p.m. contest and
hosts Sebringville on Tuesday in a
game beginning at 8 p.m.
