Miniature dancers came out in strong numbers on Saturday night for the Spring Fling in Auburn. The children’s dance was held as a fundraiser for the Auburn Playground Committee. The event raised nearly $400 for the new equipment. (Jim Brown photo) Eight members of the Walkerburn Club met at the home of Christena Gross on May 9. Dorothy Schneider, the president of the month, opened the meeting with a poem “Speed is the King” followed by prayer. Eileen McClinchey read the minutes of the last meeting. Roll call was answered by what members did for Mother’s Day. Many members had family home for the day and some families took a walk through the bush and enjoyed the spring flowers. Ila Cunningham gave the treasurer’s report, showing a nice balance. During the past month, the crib quilt, “One, two, buckle my shoe” was delivered to the Alzheimer’s Society in Clinton. It was sold at a silent auction on May 6 and the club members were glad to hear that $75 was raised for this worthwhile cause. Last month, members started two lap quilts. Members showed what they had done in the last month and more material was handed out to finish the projects with. It has been decided to have a picnic on June 26 at 12:30 p.m. at the Manchester Park by the river in Auburn. Former members of the club as well as all members of the community are invited to join us. The next meeting will be held on June 12 at the home of Deanna Snell. Audrey Boonstoppel will be president of the month and Deanna will supply the lunch and Pat Hunking will be on program. Ila Cunningham read a “Mother’s Day” poem and “What Mothers Know”. She also had a interesting word contest. Deanna Snell made an excellent auctioneer for the miscellaneous sale. A nice sum of money was raised. Christena Gross served a delicious cake and yogurt. After lunch, we enjoyed a walk through Christena’s lovely flower beds. On Thursday, April 28 Wayne and Cathy Carter welcomed the newest member of their family. Grandson Cameron Jeffery Carter was born in London to Jeff and Kelly Carter. Congratulations to the Carter family. The Auburn “Spring Fling” held on Saturday, May 14 was a great success. There were approximately 50 children in attendance andeveryone had a super time. Healthysnacks and drinks were providedand even many of the parentsparticipated with their children while J.C. Coutts acted as the D.J. for the evening. The Playground Committee would like to thank all of the loyal families from Auburn and the surrounding area for all of their support. The total raised for the evening was $354. For families who had their photo taken at the dance, the photos are ready. For any of the Hullett Central students, the photos will be sent to the school and distributed. If you have not made arrangements for receiving your photos, please contact Koreen Moss at 519-526- 1060. After months of lengthy debate and discussion that drove at the very heart of life in Huron County and the future of rural Ontario, the controversial Vodden/Palmer severance was passed by Huron County Council at the May 11 Committee of the Whole meeting. Months of discussion, several reports and a stern warning against allowing such a severance from Director of Planning Scott Tousaw didn’t deter councillors who felt the severance was just, voting 14-3 in favour of allowing the severance. Voting against the severance were Neil Vincent, Bill Siemon and Deb Shewfelt. Playing a big part in the decision was the fact that there had, at one point, been a house on that parcel of property and there would be no further restrictions under Minimum Distance Separation. Councillors said that the severance would not restrict agriculture any further. The severance still goes against the Provincial Policy Statement and the Huron County Official Plan.
