The Brussels Lions Club received its charter in 1946 and is pleased to be celebrating its 65th anniversary of service to the community in 2011. It is only through the support of the community during fundraising activities that the club can continue to fund the many worthwhile projects in the community and abroad. One hundred per cent of all funds raised by the club are returned to the community in the form of financial support for both youth and adult programs as well as community projects such as the Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Centre and the Santa Claus Parade. In 1985, the Brussels Lions Club spearheaded the fundraising and construction of the Brussels, Morris and Grey swimming pool and have continued to fund many of its capital upgrades since opening in 1986. The Brussels Lions Club meets on the second and fourth Mondays of each month throughout the year, with the exception of July and August. New members are always in demand and welcomed by the club. Wegg will be staying on to help with the Corps. The ceremony was conducted and the new commander is Captain Paul Dawson. The Cadets did drills and marching formations for the nice crowd of special guests and parents. Congratulations Capt. Dawson and good luck on your future with the Corps. The final Friday night supper of roast beef was enjoyed by a crowd of near 60. Thanks to Mary Bradshaw and Deb Cann who have assisted me in preparing and serving the suppers for the past months. We are heading into banquet season and fish fry season, with lots of functions ahead. We hope to see everyone back in the fall and we hope to convince other Branch members to take a turn at preparing suppers. Comrades, please consider volunteering at least once over the supper season. We are glad to see Comrade Jim Alton out and about and doing well following surgery in London. Our condolences to Comrade Helen Dobson on the loss of her brother last week.
