Brussels Lions announce 2011elimination draw entertainmentThe Brussels Lions Club is
pleased to announce that the feature
entertainment for its 39th annual
Elimination Draw wil be “The
Ballagh Bunch” of Teeswater. This
talented musical family has
entertained audiences from coast to
coast and will bring their show to the
Brussels, Morris and Grey

June 4. Their mix of song, dance,
fiddle playing and comedy is sure to

family entertainment and a chance at
winning one of 28 cash prizes
ranging in value from $50 up to the
grand prize of $4,000 cash for the
last ticket drawn.
This annual fundraiser is truly a
family event and is the largest
fundraising activity undertaken by
the club each year.
Tickets are available from any
Brussels Lions Club, at Cinnamon
Jim’s Café and at JL McCutcheon
Motors in Brussels. Don’t delay in
getting yours as this popular event
sells out every year. Early
indications are that this year will be
no exception.
The Brussels Lions Club received
its charter in 1946 and is pleased to
be celebrating its 65th anniversary of
service to the community in 2011. It
is only through the support of the
community during fundraising
activities that the club can continue
to fund the many worthwhile
projects in the community and
abroad. One hundred per cent of all
funds raised by the club are returned
to the community in the form of
financial support for both youth and
adult programs as well as
community projects such as the
Brussels, Morris and Grey
Community Centre and the Santa
Claus Parade.
In 1985, the Brussels Lions Club
spearheaded the fundraising and
construction of the Brussels, Morris
and Grey swimming pool and have
continued to fund many of its capital
upgrades since opening in 1986.
The Brussels Lions Club meets on
the second and fourth Mondays of
each month throughout the year,
with the exception of July and
August. New members are always
in demand and welcomed by the
club.

At the Branch
Cadets change guard
By Jo-Ann McDonald
The Brussels Cadet Corp 2967
held a special evening on Tuesday
night. The Cadets and special
guests were in full dress uniform for
the change of command ceremony.
The Corps has been led by Captain
Wegg for the last few years and
Capt. Wegg will be staying on to
help with the Corps. The ceremony
was conducted and the new
commander is Captain Paul
Dawson. The Cadets did drills and
marching formations for the nice
crowd of special guests and parents.
Congratulations Capt. Dawson and
good luck on your future with the
Corps.
The final Friday night supper of
roast beef was enjoyed by a crowd
of near 60. Thanks to Mary
Bradshaw and Deb Cann who have
assisted me in preparing and
serving the suppers for the past
months. We are heading into
banquet season and fish fry season,
with lots of functions ahead. We
hope to see everyone back in the fall
and we hope to convince other
Branch members to take a turn at
preparing suppers. Comrades,
please consider volunteering at least
once over the supper season.
We are glad to see Comrade Jim
Alton out and about and doing well
following surgery in London.
Our condolences to Comrade
Helen Dobson on the loss of her
brother last week.
The Brussels Public School
Grade 8 graduating class hosted a
fish fry at the Branch on Saturday.
They had a good crowd of around
200 enjoy the meal. Parents and
students set up and made salads at
the Branch on Friday evening and
then worked for the dinner on
Saturday. The students served the
fish and did cleanup, dishes and
were the runners from the fryers.
They had a good day and appreciate
everyone coming out to support
their fundraiser. Comrades helping
out the Branch included Deb Caan,
Jo-Ann McDonald, Rick
McDonald, Lisa Glanville, Sandra
Josling, Barrie Currie, Greg Wilson,
Andy Overholt, Mike Dauphin and
Murray Lowe.
The Saturday afternoon euchre
had 13 and a half tables in play.
Winners were: first, John and
Catherine Brown, 82; second,
Marie Stewart and Eileen Sellers,
75; third, Lillian Appleby and
Delores Howatt, 73; low, Bill and
