Hullett Central’s shoe drivebrings in 200 pairs of shoes
Fairness, treating everyone in a
just and accepting manner, is the
attribute receiving attention at
Hullett Central Public School
during May.
Regular readers of this space may
remember that the school held a
shoe drive shortly after Christmas
for enough outgrown but gently-
used shoes and sandals to fill a
hockey bag. Approximately 200
pairs of shoes are being greatly
appreciated by needy children in
Haiti. Proving once again that when
families know where to recycle they
are willing to help out.
On March 31 the senior boys and
girls basketball teams competed in
the regional tournament at Central
Huron Secondary School. The two
teams had spent many hours
preparing for this event and their
hard work brought success. Both
teams placed first in the tournament
and brought home trophies.
Congratulations athletes!
Now you may see all the pupils at
Hullett outside preparing for their
annual track and field meet which
will be held on Wednesday, May 18
weather permitting.
The Grade 1/2 class have filed
this most interesting report.
Nine students from Grade 1/2 are
excited to welcome home their ‘Flat
Stanleys’ from vacations in various
locations in Ontario, Alberta,
Florida and Australia. Flat Stanley
is a character from our novel study.
When he was sleeping one night, a
bulletin board fell on top of him
making him flat enough to slide
under doors and fit inside an
envelope. The pupils created their
own Flat Stanley and mailed him to
a family member in a distant
location for at two-week vacation.
They asked their relatives to take
Flat Stanley with them wherever
they went, take pictures and record
his activities and adventures in
journal. These journals, and Flat
Stanleys are now returning to
Hullett School.
The students are sharing many
amazing stories and wonderful
adventures with their classmates.
Some of the adventures include
going to a Red Sox game in Florida
visiting the Sydney Opera House in
Australia, going for an ambulance
ride in Brampton, golfing and
snowboarding.
Please fee free to come in and
read the Flat Stanley journals which
are displayed in the foyer of the
school.
The new Educational Assistant at
Hullett, Tracy Thompson, sent
along this notice for your
information. The Hullett Spring
Concert dress rehearsal will be held
on May 16 at 12 p.m. and the
evening performance will be held
on May 17 at 7 p.m.
This year the audience will have
an opportunity to enjoy both live
entertainment and digital
entertainment. The students have
worked hard to be able to share their
musical talents in the following
ways: singing in the choir and small
groups; playing in the school band;
creating a slide show presentation of
interesting musical instrumental
inventions and making a video
presentation of songs.
Bring your family, friends and
neighbours and sit back and
enjoy the 2011 Hullett Spring
Concert.
A few more “May” celebrations
for you to consider. The month
includes things that most of us do
naturally as the weather warms.
This is barbecue month, salad
month, bike month and flower
month. It is also the “get caught
reading’ month which ties right into
the ‘read-in’ day on May 10.
However the reading thing should
be an every day and month
consideration, I believe.
Londesborough United Church
holds its yard sale this Saturday,
May 14. If you have items to donate
they can be left in the church
basement any day this week until 7
p.m. on Friday.
The UCW will hold a bake sale
the morning of May 14 as well and
would welcome baking donations
Friday evening or early Saturday
morning.
If Scottish music interests you,
remember the Blyth Festival
Singers are holding a “Scottish
Fling” cabaret the evening of May
28 at the Stanley Complex in Varna.
Tickets are available from any choir
member.

Royal astrologer
Astrofar, the Royal Astrologer, better known as Emily
Branderhorst, did not look happy after Daniel debunked her
astrological know-how in the Clinton and District Christian
School’s play Rescue in the Night. Telling the biblical story
of Daniel in the lion’s den, the play is brought to life by
Grade 7 and 8 students from the school and was performed
at Blyth’s Memorial Hall on May 6. This is the first year the
school has taken their play outside of the school and will be
performing in Exeter next week. (Denny Scott photo)
