Huron East to tender ice
resurfacers for two arenas
Huron East Council has
authorized the start of the tendering
process for a new ice resurfacer in
Brussels and perhaps a second one
for Seaforth.
Following a presentation by
Recreation Facility Manager Abi
Corbett of the Brussels, Morris and
Grey Community Centre at an
earlier meeting, Huron East Council
was faced with the decision at its
May 3 meeting.
The issue was raised that perhaps
there might be savings in tendering
for two ice resurfacers at the same
time and that it was an idea worth
exploring. While the machine in
Brussels is currently nearly a decade
past its life expectancy, the ice
resurfacer in Seaforth is also several
years past its manufacturer-
suggested life on the ice of 10 years
as well.
It was Councillor Andy Flowers
who suggested that the motion be
amended to allow the tendering of a
price for one ice resurfacer, as well
as two, just to test the waters on a
potential discount if two were
bought.
“It’s doesn’t mean we have to
purchase them,” Flowers said. “But
we’re three or four years away from
having to buy a new machine in
Seaforth.”
It was also suggested that because
the ice resurfacer in Seaforth
wouldn’t be completely spent, that
there could be some resale value left
