(Denny Scott photo) The Wingham Golf and Curling Club is patiently waiting for golfing weather to arrive. The cold east winds and wet conditions have put a huge damper on the golfers’ playing time. The golf course wintered really well and is in great shape for spring. With the arrival of May, the Wednesday senior morning men kicked off their season on May 4. The Thursday night men are also keen to get on the links this week. Friday night couples’ night gets off to a roaring start this Friday, May 6 with their first monthly wing night. It is refreshing to see the new younger members, some with their children, out playing or hitting some balls on the range. OUT OF BOUNDS NEWS The management and staff would like to thank “super” volunteers Mary Houghton and Ray Walker who have done a terrific job painting the entire golfing lounge and dining room areas. With the kitchen reopening this week, the new look is a welcome asset to the club. Chip and a Putt – By Bruce Skinn The Municipality of Central Huron received $137,084 for hosting OLG Slots at Clinton Raceway. The payment was for the host municipality’s fourth-quarter share of slots revenue (January to March 2011). To date, Central Huron has received more than $6.1 million in non-tax gaming revenue. Payments are made on a quarterly basis according to the government fiscal year, which runs April to March. OLG Slots at Clinton Raceway opened on August 24, 2000. Since opening, the facility has attracted more than two million visitors. “Over the past 10 years, OLG Slots at Clinton Raceway has contributed more than $6.1 million in gaming revenue, significantly improving the local economy and strengthening our community,” says Huron-Bruce MPP Carol Mitchell. “This strong partnership between the Municipality of Central Huron and OLG provides ongoing support for key initiatives and important projects that benefit all citizens of the Central Huron area.” In total, OLG issued more than $16.9 million in fourth quarter non- tax gaming revenue payments to 23 municipalities that host OLG Casinos and OLG Slots-at-racetrack facilities. To date, OLG has distributed $759.5 million to these host municipalities. Each municipality hosting an OLG Slots-at-racetrack facility receives five per cent of the gaming facility’s gross slot machine revenue from the first 450 slot machines and two per cent from any additional machines over that number. Funds are used at the discretion of the municipality. Tracks and their horse people also share the revenue generated by the slots program, with 20 per cent of gross slot machine revenue split evenly between the two groups. Since the launch of the program in 1998, more than $3.41 billion has been shared between racetrack owners and their horse people. In 2010/2011, the province allocated $120 million in gaming revenue to support charities through the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF). Every year, the Government of Ontario allocates two per cent of gross revenue from slot machines at OLG Casinos and OLG Slots-at- racetrack facilities to the province’s problem gambling program for research, treatment and prevention programs. The amount for fiscal 2010/2011 was budgeted at $39 million. OLG Slots distributes payment to municipality BE A FACE IN THE FIGHT AGAINST CANCER BECAUSE CANCER IS IN YOUR COMMUNITY, SO ARE WE.
