(Vicky Bremner photo) Politicians need to behave now About this time of year, I’m fully convinced that spring is my favourite season. Each new day brings new signs of life and growth. What’s not to love about spring? Well my clock tried to rewind 20 years on Saturday as Lara and the girls celebrated Chris’s 40th birthday. When most of his old gang congregated they clustered by the garage catching up on life. Nothing changed. They still want to visit in the front yard. It was good to have them all together and listen to the news of their lives see and hear about their children, as well as hear stories that I really am glad I didn’t know 20 years ago. So continue with the good lives, I really appreciate your friendship. The election is over. It will be very nice to turn on the TV, soon I hope, and not hear all the unrealistic promises we’ve had to endure over the past few weeks. Really if they’d all just behave, do their best and try to get along, everybody would come out the winner. Here’s to a very long time before the next big one. Mother’s Day is on Sunday and if you’re looking for a way to show your Mom appreciation and love, think Ethel. Pop out to the school between 8 a.m. and noon and be fed. It’s a good way to start the day, please Mom and support the Relay for Life project. Sheila Richards is continuing her recovery and appreciates your notes and cards. The soccer and ball crews are getting primed, figuring out their positions, the strategies and the fine points of working as a team. Keep up the good work, you’ll learn so much. The congregation at Brussels United Church enjoyed the humour God gave us on Sunday. Light- hearted laughter Sunday brought forth good stories, readings and a few good “knock knock jokes” from the Sunday school. Once again we were reminded that God made us each unique and that God too has a great sense of humour. Enjoy the days of May. By Betty Graber Watson Call 887-9231 A NOTE FROM BETTY NEWS FROM BRUSSELS At the BranchMembership downfrom last year again By Jo-Ann McDonald The general meeting of the Brussels Legion Branch for April is election meeting. There were 15 Comrades in attendance for the meeting. The usual business was conducted hearing committee reports from many. The membership stands at 118 members, down yet again from last year. The house chairman reports that the upstairs cooler needed repairs and some other minor lights, etc. have been replaced. The lawn needs to be raked and rolled and Comrade McDonald will look into it. Senior chairman reminds all about the senior luncheon planned for June. Nevada Chairman reports a positive balance, but more tickets will soon have to be purchased. Correspondence included an invitation to all Comrades to attend a special theatre performance at the Blyth Festival called Vimy - the story of four soldiers in a field hospital as they reflect on their lives before, during and after the Battle of Vimy Ridge. Shows are scheduled for July 1 and July 16 and for information and tickets contact Blyth Legion soon as the tickets are going fast. Election results are: president, Deb Cann; first-vice, Jo-Ann McDonald; second-vice, Norm Continued on page 10
