HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Citizen, 2011-04-28, Page 27The Walton WI held its annual
meeting at the Walton Inn on
Wednesday, April 20.
President Ruth began the regular
monthly meeting with a reading
“The Clothesline”. Secretary Helen
Craig gave the latest
correspondence which included an
update on what is happening with
the closing of the Erland Lee
Museum Home.
The new integrated theme for
Women’s Institute is “Back to
Basics” which is from September
2011 until August 2013. The idea is
to get members and the community
at large involved in basic
happenings, such as holding a
workshop or short course and
teaching – knitting, crocheting,
canning, crafts or making
homemade natural household
cleaners. At a meeting the members
could practise “Laughter Yoga”.
Following lunch the meeting
portion of the day was held.
Margaret McMahon installed the
officers for the following year.
President is Ruth Axtmann;
secretary-treasurer, Helen Craig;
PRO, Brenda Perrie; Tweedsmuir
curator, Marion Godkin and ROSE,
Marjory Humphries. Ruth thanked
Margaret and presented her with a
gift of a hydrangea flower.

I canoe, do you?
Students at Grey Central Public School got a crash, and sink, course in canoe building by
Métis canoe builder Marcel Labelle earlier this month. Labelle, shown here with a canoe he
brought for the demonstration, started out as a trapper, but, after the fur market fell out, he
needed another means to make ends meet for his family, so he became a canoe maker. (Denny
