Taking the trip Summer Jorna, a Brussels Cadet, was outside of the Brussels United Church’s annual bake sale on Saturday morning collecting for the cadet corps’ year-end trip. (Vicky Bremner photo) Holy Week busy in Brussels Ahhhh, a sigh is extended, one busy week is over for another year. Holy Week in Brussels is a busy time for the church crowd. Daily noontime services are offered by the Brussels and area Ministerial, that large word means the Ministers from each of the area churches. So a rotation is set and they and their catering members take a turn offering worship and lunch. It’s good to hear what the other denominations are saying about the events that changed the world, and fun to share lunch with folks you see on the street. It’s an excellent way to set up for the events of that Friday so long ago and then the preparation for Easter. The university gang is finishing exams and hopefully heading for well-paying summer jobs. So now it’s deciding what comes home, andwhat can stay. Meanwhile thesecondary school crew is makingdecisions that will set them up for the next few years. Will I get a job, should I try for an apprentice or which university or college will suit me best? And you get excited about today’s menu! Lots of family were home for Easter with many different traditions shared. It’s interesting to hear what each family does to celebrate Easter. Menus vary and have changed over the years. For some, turkey and ham are the stable items, for others lasagna and roast beef are enjoyed, for most, the sharing of a grilled cheese sandwich would be quite acceptable as long as family is together, the food is important but definitely secondary. After a meal, the traditions continue – a leisurely walk, a game or two of road hockey, a round of skipping, games of cards or an egg hunt or perhaps just resting and visiting together signal important family time. Family also has changed to include anyone on your love list. Blood relatives do not always make the best family and so at times of celebration we want to spend our time with those we love to make for the best gathering yet. So I’m hoping you had a very Happy Easter. At this house, it’s almost tax freedom time, yippee April 30, and that’s a celebration as the tax trafficis greatly reduced and I don’t have tobe quite as careful with my state ofdress and kitchen counter; so here’s to May. Enjoy all the growth and new life of spring. Bye now, Betty G.W. When you need to get the job done ~ Call us! CONSTRUCTION LTD.
