Huron East’s Bernie MacLellan said
that he thought there was a five-
minute limit on presentations
containing information council
already knew.
Central Huron’s Brian Barnim,
however, spoke in favour of the
presentation, saying that Budd
should be able to speak his piece
and made a motion to allow Budd
to continue, which council
approved.
Budd was also disturbed by being
put on the clock. As a member of
Central Huron Against Turbines
(CHAT) he said he was at a meeting
of Huron County Council where
Chuck Edey of Leader Resources
spoke for much longer and then
took over 30 minutes of
questions.
“If I can’t speak to this, then
there’s a problem with democracy in
Huron County,” Budd said.
Goderich’s Deb Shewfelt,
however, said that it comes down to
job creation. If that happens, then
the rest will follow, despite the
concerns people may have.
“We need jobs,” Shewfelt said.
“That’s the bottom line.”

Euchre in

Nancy Hislop from Mulberry Hill
Farms on April 18. Nancy
presented information on growing
and using your own herbs.
The Horticultural Society has
announced that it will be co-
ordinating a community event in
the fall. Keep the date of October
29, 2011 open on your calendar.
Residents who live in the
Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh
(ACW) portion of the village can
now breathe easily knowing that
the wheels are in motion moving
towards fire coverage that would
see the entire village is being
served by the North Huron Fire
Department out of the Blyth fire
hall.
The boundaries will have to be
worked out, but in the minds of
Auburn residents a deal has
essentially been reached in
principle that will lead to the fire
coverage that residents have been
wanting for over a year.
About 17 people from Auburn
attended the meeting in Wingham
last Thursday at which ACW
Council met with North Huron
Council to listen to a presentation
by John Black, Fire Chief in North
Huron.
A representative from the Fire
Marshal’s office confirmed that the
“closest fire department should be
the one responding”.
John Black confirmed that the
percentage of the fire budget that
ACW will be paying should not
change based on boundary
adjustments. The rate was
determined by the percentage of
the overall fire budget pertaining to
the Blyth Fire Department, and
then subsequently, the percentage
that has been allocated to ACW
over the years.
Congratulations to our “fire
dream team” for a job well done!
Everyone in the village is grateful
for all of the effort that has been
exhibited by our representatives –
Jacqui Laporte, Jim Scheider, Keith
Allen, Heather Van Dorp and Al
Bosman.
