THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, APRIL 21, 2011.Agriculture Brussels Livestock report Fed steers, heifers drop in price at sale Total receipts for Brussels Livestock for the week ending April 15 were 2,559 cattle, 2,962 lambs and goats. On Tuesday fed steers and heifers sold $3 lower. Choice steers and heifer sold $108 to $112 with sales to $122.50. Second cut sold $105 to $107. Cows sold fully steady. On Thursday holstein veal sold $2 to $3 higher, while heavy holstein veal traded under pressure and beef veal sold steady. Heavy lambs sold strong with prices $2 to $5 higher, while light lambs sold barely steady. Goats sold steady and sheep sold on an active trade. On Friday calves and yearlings sold fully steady to last week’s prices. There were 152 steers on offer. Schmidtbrook Farms of Woodstock, consigned fourteen steers averaging 1,625 lbs. selling for an average of $110.55 with one limousin steer weighing 1,550 lbs. selling to Horizon Meat Packers for $122.50. Beef sold $100 to $140 with sales to $143; good holstein, $90 to $95; medium holstein, $78 to $88; heavy holstein, $75 to $85. Lamar Frey of Listowel, consigned six veal averaging 733 lbs. selling for an average of $137.33 with one crossbred heifer weighing 690 lbs. selling for $143. Terry Greidanus of Londesborough, consigned eleven veal averaging 698 lbs. selling for an average of $106.18 with one limousin heifer weighing 690 lbs. selling for $135. Robin Wormington of Bluevale, consigned eight veal averaging 632 lbs. selling for an average of $91.92 with three holstein steer averaging 628 lbs. selling for $95.50. Sheep sold $45 to $70 with sales to $86. Goats: kids sold $50 to $140 to $170 per head; nannies, $50 to $100 per head; billies, $150 to $250 to $300 per head.
