Brussels Livestock report
Fed steers, heifers drop in price at sale
Total receipts for Brussels
Livestock for the week ending April
15 were 2,559 cattle, 2,962 lambs
and goats. On Tuesday fed steers and
heifers sold $3 lower. Choice steers
and heifer sold $108 to $112 with
sales to $122.50. Second cut sold
$105 to $107. Cows sold fully
steady. On Thursday holstein veal
sold $2 to $3 higher, while heavy
holstein veal traded under pressure
and beef veal sold steady. Heavy
lambs sold strong with prices $2 to
$5 higher, while light lambs sold
barely steady. Goats sold steady and
sheep sold on an active trade. On
Friday calves and yearlings sold
fully steady to last week’s prices.
There were 152 steers on offer.

consigned fourteen steers averaging
1,625 lbs. selling for an average of
$110.55 with one limousin steer
weighing 1,550 lbs. selling to
Horizon Meat Packers for $122.50.
Tom Dickson of Stratford, consigned
five steers averaging 1,218 lbs.
selling for an average of $116.11
with three limousin steers averaging
1,223 lbs. selling for $118. Murray
Shiell of Wingham, consigned thirty-
nine steers averaging 1,608 lbs.

with four charolais steers averaging
1,529 lbs. selling to Ryding Regency
for $111.25. Kevin Stewardson of
Wyoming, consigned six steers
averaging 1,472 lbs. selling for an
average of $105.53 with one roan
steer weighing 1,535 lbs. selling for
$110.75.

cows averaging 1,230 lbs. selling for
an average of $70.99 with one
simmental cow weighing 1,435 lbs.

There were 110 head of veal on
offer. Beef sold $100 to $140 with
sales to $143; good holstein, $90 to
$95; medium holstein, $78 to $88;
heavy holstein, $75 to $85. Lamar
Frey of Listowel, consigned six veal
averaging 733 lbs. selling for an
average of $137.33 with one
crossbred heifer weighing 690 lbs.

Sowing the seeds
Helmut Spieser, an engineer from the Ontario Ministry of
Food, Agriculture and Rural Affairs, was brought to the
Brussels Legion by Huron Feeding Systems in Brussels to
discuss crop production and aeration techniques last week.
