PAGE 29.GEORGE MCCUTCHEONGeorge Elgin McCutcheon of Brussels passed away on Monday, Feb. 28, 2011 at Seaforth Community Hospital. Born in Morris Township on Sept. 24, 1922, George was in his 89th year. Friends will be received by George’s family one and a half hours prior to a celebration of George’s life at Brussels United Church on Saturday, April 16 at 2 p.m. This service will be preceded by a Masonic memorial service conducted under the auspices of St. John’s Lodge No. 284 A.F. and A.M. Burial will take place at St. John’s Anglican Church (McCutcheon) Cemetery in Morris Township. George was the Reeve of the Village of Brussels from 1956 to 1962. In his final year he served as Huron County warden. George was a life member of both the St. John’s Masonic Lodge No. 284 A.F. and A.M. and Brussels Lions Club, of which he was thepresident from 1961 to 1962. While McCutcheon Motors was first established by Harry McCutcheon in the 1930s as a repair service on his farm, George purchased the business, along with John L. Rice, from the McCutch-eon estate. The pair named their business Riverside Motors and from May of 1946 to 1949, the pair had signed as an associated Chev-Olds dealership in conjunction with Seaforth Motors. Later in 1949, George bought out Rice and in 1950 a direct General Motors franchise was granted for the village of Brussels and the surrounding area. In 1952 the building where McCutcheon Motors continues to operate today was constructed and in 1958. George was the beloved husband of 47 years of the late Barbara Jean (Thynne) and will be sadly missed by his daughters Barbara Vonne Brister of Orillia and Pauline Anne Clarke and her husband Rick ofOrillia, his grandchildren Jordan Brister, Alexandra Brister and Jason Reid, Michael and Nicole Clarke and Paula and Peter Gorgachuk. He will be missed by his brothers Jack and his wife Esther McCutcheon, Bob and his wife Jeanette McCutcheon and Mel and his wife Lois McCutcheon, his sisters Berva Rice and Marg and her husband Bernell Smith and his sister-in-law Betty McCutcheon. George was predeceased by brothers Casey, Fred, Lorne and Bill and his sister Anne Bryans. At the request of George, as well as his family, a celebration of George’s life will take place this spring with interment at St. John’s Anglican Church (McCutcheon) Cemetery, Morris Township. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Brussels United Church. Online condolences may be made at www.schimanskifamilyfuneralhome.com JOHN PURVIS Mr. John Stanley Clayton Purvis of Listowel, and formerly of Ethel passed away at Listowel Memorial Hospital on Friday, April 8, 2011. He was in his 85th year. John was the beloved husband of the late Pearl (Gibson) Purvis, dear father of Ken and Denise Purvis of RR 1, Ethel and Cindy Purvis and Derek Elliott of Kitchener and grandfather of Nick and Ainsley Purvis. He was the brother of Wesley and Ruth Purvis of Tavistock and brother-in-law of Mavis Gibson of Burnaby, B.C., Ruth and Elmor Parrish of Trowbridge, and Mary Steinhaus of LeRoy, Michigan. John is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Visitation was held at First Baptist Church, Listowel on Monday, April 11 from noon until the time of the funeral service at 1 p.m. Interment is in MountPleasant Cemetery, Ethel. Memorial donations to First Baptist Church, Listowel would be appreciated and may be made through the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel.
