Focus!
Catie MacDonald was one of many young people at
Londesborough United Church on Friday night taking part
in the church’s Sunday School’s annual game night.
MacDonald tried her hand at some crokinole while there
were plenty of other activities to be had as well, including

On Sunday, March 27, Pat Glazier
took a bad fall in her home. She
spent last week in Stratford and
Clinton hospitals having a broken
hip pinned. You may notice that her
home has received some adjustments
to allow for a walker as she heals. By
the time you read this column, it is
hoped Pat will be well on the road to
recovery and may even be home.
This Sunday Londesborough
United Church will hold its 31st
annual Songfest. This evening of
music begins at 7 p.m. Acts for this
year all live in the area. This year’s
guest performers include the Walsh
sisters of Egmondville, the Durnin
brothers of Auburn, Walter and
Kathy Eigenheer from north of
Blyth, Redeemed of Blyth and the
Szusz and Bergsma families of
Londesborough.
Londesborough United Church
will have a yard sale again this year.
However the date has been changed
from the holiday weekend. This
year’s sale will be held on Saturday,
May 14. Mark your calendar now.
You don’t want to miss the spring
“Olde Tyme Country Breakfast” on
Sunday, April 17 from 9 a.m. to
12:30 p.m. served by the
Londesborough Lions Club. Then
there is a fish fry again this year on
April 30. Both events are at the
Londesborough Community Hall.
April is sweet pea month if you are
shopping for flowers to give to a
special someone. April has a host of
‘specials’ to choose from. This
column may not have room for them
all.
April is ‘books to brighten young
minds’ month, always a good idea.
And April 2 was children’s book day.
In keeping with that theme, it is also
school library and poetry month.
And while we are on the topic of
books, it is self-publishing month, so
get out there and promote yourself.
This being the first month of
spring, the outdoors will be getting
attention to see just what havoc the
winter has wrought. Ergo, this is
lawn and garden month. April 22 has
been declared Earth Day. April 29 is
designated as greenery day.
Astronomy day is celebrated in
April. Keep an eye on the weather on
April 12 as that is big wind day.
What would the world do without
crackers and zippers? They are
celebrated on April 28 and 29
respectively.
April is humour and smile month
and I heard of some fun happenings
from last Friday, April Fool’s Day.
And the grilled cheese sandwich and
straw hats get recognition this month
as well. Hang up the duster and
ignore the broom on Thursday, April
7 as that is no housework day. Get
out a book instead and ignore the
dust bunnies for a day.
Sponsorship for the last remaining
dressing room at the new Central
Huron Community Centre was
discussed at the March 31 meeting
of Central Huron’s Committee of the
Whole and some found it
troublesome that there had been no
financial commitment from Clinton
Minor Hockey, the organization that
would be one of the the centre’s
primary users.
There was a proposal by
Councillor Burk Metzger that a
delegation meet with the association
and ask if they would like to split the
sponsorship cost of a room amongst
users’ parents (a total cost of
$25,000) and it could be made into
the association’s clubhouse. Chief
Administrative Officer Kevin
McLlwain, however, said that he had
interest from several parties and that
if they were prepared to purchase
sponsorship for the room
immediately, it wouldn’t be fair to
them.
The current policy of first come,
first served, was maintained and
councillors decided to let the
sponsorship happen naturally.
The Londesborough Happy gang
Seniors met at the Londesborough
Community Hall on March 30
for their regular monthly
meeting.
Following their potluck meal and
time of fellowship, the group
enjoyed a sing-song led by Harry
and Gail Lear. The favourite songs
were chosen from an ‘olde-tyme
song book’. John Jewitt was also on
hand that afternoon and recited an
amusing monologue about
bagpipes.
The Londesborough seniors group
along with a group from Arkona are
sponsoring the upcoming Seniors’
Spring Rally to be held in Brucefield
United Church on Thursday, April
14. Registration for the day begins
at 10 a.m.
The Happy Gang Seniors will
hold their April euchre party at
the hall on Friday, April 8 at 8
p.m. Everyone is welcome. These
card parties have been held hostage
this winter by weather conditions.
At press time, it’s snowing
again, so there will be no telling
what the weather will be like
on Friday night in Londes-
borough.
Looking for local heroes
There are so many people out there who do
so much to improve their community.
Now you have a chance to say thanks.
Nominate that special person for the 26th
Annual Citizen Citizenship Awards.
Each year a committee chooses an outstanding citizen from each of the Blyth and area
and Brussels and area communities to receive an award for contribution to the
community. If you know someone you think should be honoured, please fill in the ballot
