New president Mary Bernard saved her remarks for the banquet. Over 40 attended the curling potluck and awards evening at the Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Centre. The evening social was from 6 - 7 and the vast array of delicious meal items were ready for the 7 p.m. dinner. Following the dinner, President Murray Pepper gave thank you notes and flowers to Dona Knight and Jean Bewley for getting things ready for the evening, to Merv and Donna Bauer for bartending over the course of the curling season, Susan Alexander for being secretary/ treasurer of the club and Jo-Ann McDonald for being press reporter. He also thanked Steve Knight for his diligence in looking after the refurbishing of the rocks and using the new nipper to make better ice. Brian Warwick and Steve Steiss were thanked for doing a great job drawing up the draws. He had everyone sign a card forBob Rann, who carves a wooden curling rock coaster set for the winners of the Ike Rann trophy. The presentation of prizes for the winning teams for the year was carried out by President Murray, first-vice, Mary Bernard and second- vice, Douwa Top. The overall winner of the year was the winner of the second draw, Steve Steiss and his team, Mary Ann Bernard, Jeff Cardiff and Marsha Bietz. They were presented with the D.A. Rann Trophy and the rock coaster sets. Congratulations to the winning team and all the team for the year. Murray finished the evening with a few jokes and words and made the draws for the door prizes. New president Mary Bernard then thanked Murray for a great job for the year and hoped everyone will be back next year and maybe even bring a friend. A fun game of progressive euchre followed and completed the evening. Warwick, Steiss do greatjob on draw committee A great honour The Brussels Curling Club held its annual year-end banquet on Friday night at the Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Centre and it was this team of, from left: second vice Jeff Cardiff, vice Mary Ann Bernard and skip Steve Steiss that came away with first place in the evening’s second draw and the D.A. Rann Trophy for the team with the season’s highest amount of points. The award, presented by club president Murray Pepper, right, is named for D.A. “Ike” Rann, a funeral director and avid curler in Brussels who retired in 1969, selling his business to Max Watts. Ike’s son, who is also a curling enthusiast now prepares the awards, the wooden curling rocks year after year at no cost to the club. Absent was team member Marsha Bietz. (Vicky Bremner photo)
